I just saw this and wondered if it was one of those moments in life after which nothing may be the same again...

Cannot be... They have just announced they are selling off loads of new sites for housing I guess. Must be Lidl. (Actually, if it were a Waitrose would it get everyone's attention?)

With at least 100 billion stars in our galaxy, even if only one in a million stars was orbited by habitable planets, that gives a minimum of 100,000 star systems in our galaxy alone where life could exist. I've always found the possibility of life NOT existing somewhere out there pretty incredible. Problem is you can't just pop over to check them out!

So the Fermi Paradox is in trouble?

I've always thought that the Fermi Paradox was built on a false assumption. If there is intelligent life in the galaxy, why would they want to visit this one little planet when there are billions upon billions of others to have a peep at? It's a bit like a microbe siting on a leaf high in a tree in Finsbury Park thinking there is no human life because no one has ever popped round to say hello.

In answer to " Where are they ", perhaps God, when resting on the seventh day, said " Sod it, I'm not going through THAT again "
