A Peek Inside the New Everyman (ex-Odeon) in Muswell Hill
The old Odeon in Muswell Hill was recently bought by Everyman along with three other London cinemas. They've started the process of uncovering the art-deco at the cinema and things are looking good. I'm really looking forward to seeking it when its finished. The original hard floor in the foyer (above) when they've got rid of the old glue and given it a polish should look spectacular. I hope my phone picture does it justice.

It's widely regarded a one of the worst films ever made. Bela Lugosi died part way through the filming (he was reputed to have sunk to drinking wood alcohol by this time) and rather than start again they used a stand in who was over a foot taller. The same film maker, Ed Wood, also directed the rather remarkable "Glen or Glenda".

Luckily the wonderful Phoenix in East Finchley and the rather less comfortable Art House in Crouch End are fulfilling your brief pretty well these days. The Phoenix is really well priced too.

They both give concessions which is great for OAPs, particularly the Phoenix which has reductions for evening shows too.
There is also the 'Haringey Independent Cinema' http://www.haringey.org.uk/hic/ which shows interesting films at a very good price of £4 and £3 conc.

Ahhhh the old Electric Cinema showing The Harder They Come through a thick blue haze, those were the days, and nights; and the sound of hundreds of small packages hitting the ground as the film was interupted by a raid........

The BFI has a film of the original opening of Muswell Hill Odeon in 1936 with stars like Basil Rathbone and it's first birthday with Sabu - be great to compare it with the refurb.

I think the picture above makes it look very unattractive and can't see any Art Deco here. Far too 21st century...

That's the original interior from when the cinema was opened in the 1930s.

It is indeed - the only additions are the furniture, the lighting and the neon sign on the floor. In fact it's classic art deco and for me it's very attractive indeed,
