Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hi guys,

Does anyone know if a new railing will be installed under the bridge ? they have replaced the floor slabs and removed the old railing on one side however it has been without a new railing now for over 3 months?

Hi Alan, yes this problem was flagged and as mentioned above objected to, we even tried to get the area of exposed common to be reduced.

Many thanks for posting and explaining what happened. My apologies for suggesting the Friends' Group supported the plan to have this "open" design, rather than flagging it up as a problem.

As my photos of Tottenham Green show, while this type of "trail" wear and widening may not be inevitable, it is reasonably predictable. Especially next to a bus stop.

I particularly like the new water feature outside the Dominion Centre/Greggs. The idea of a stream running down the footpath is truly revolutionary. We should praise Haringey's forward thinking here.

Cllr McNamara has been emailed for his comments - still awaiting reply...

It's a Green initiative - look at the gradually-changing colour of the paving slabs. Also it's a play feature when it freezes. Double the value in these hard times...

Revolutionary? Hardly. These water features are now the artisanal multigrain bread and organic butter of every new design. Can't see water? No cascades, water blades, or sprays? No fountains that suddenly squirt up your legs when you're walking across a piazza? Then the architects are behind the times.

So go with the flow. Enjoy babbling brooks and beauteous reflecting pools.

Are the Wood Green works supposed to be a tribute to the efficiency of the private sector?  Those contractors get things done so well and so much faster eh?

I'd appreciate it if someone would give them a kick up the backside.  Due to their failure to complete the works, bus routes from South Tottenham to Wood Green are still up the creek, both the 230 and the W4 don't complete their routes which is a real pain when you're in a hurry or carrying heavy items, pushing a pushchair, have difficulties walking, etc etc.

Nah, it's just an early, early, early attempt to break us in for CR2/Crossrail 2.
