I am very unwillingly awake due to the sounds of (apparent) armageddon drifting through my window. It sounds like someone is very ineptly trying to steal - and repeatedly dropping - a large corrugated iron shed, in between blowing a car horn. Been going since at least 5.45am, still going now (6.30am). Has this been bothering anyone else? Wtf are they doing on CHRISTMAS DAY?!? Am assuming it's the rail yard up by Hornsey station, doesn't seem to be any other explanation. Does anyone know better what this is?
It's a fine time to discover that Harringey no longer has a 24 hour noise team. Infuriating.

Lots of rail works going on today and tomorrow, since no (local) trains, assume it's to do with that. Perhaps related to the new Thameslink depot that's being built.
Also, locally, no Overground on Sat 27th (works on the bridge over the High Road at South Tottenham), and the High Road (A10) is closed for that too.
We had a letter (top end of Seymour) a couple of weeks ago warning us that they were going to be doing significant work over Christmas on the Hornsey Depot. It certainly did start with a bang on christmas morning.

V&M when you phoned the Out of Hours switchboard staff did they at least record your complaint to pass on to what's left of the Noise Team when they came on duty? (Last year it seemed down to a single person on at any one time. This could lead to a backlog of calls and visits, with noise over by the time someone arrived.
One purpose of such a record is to provide evidence of when a business or household has been the source of serious noise nuisance complaints by different residents over a period.
So could I please suggest that anyone who phones the Council about noise should gently but firmly insist that the basic details of their complaint are recorded. with their name address/email. And if you're up and can't sleep, take a few minutes to email brief details to your three ward councillors, and perhaps the "Leader" and "Cabinet" councillor for the Environment.
Because another purpose in having a record is to show the Council's decision-makers that this service is valuable and valued.
Yes, we know about the extra £70 million to be lopped off the budget. And how despite the cuts (or perhaps because of them in the Alice-through-the-Looking-Glass world of "efficiencies" and "savings") we have to admit it's getting so much better all the time. Building a Stronger Haringey, in fact. With bluer skies, whiter clouds; and more verdantly green grass than ever before. (Leader's column - page 2 of December/January Haringey People Magazine)
But even with all this dancing and cheering from the Lollipop Guild and the Lullaby League, the Noise Team shouldn't be forgotten.
Bit of a late reply sorry, but last year I called and got the Out of Hours switchboard when I wanted to complain about a car alarm that had been going off all night, several nights running. It was about 5am when I called - next time I know to call earlier when the Noise Team is still on duty! That said, they asked for the details and I was able to give the registration which I could see from my window.
It's possible they were able to look up the owner's details, because it seems after that he/she found a different place to park.
Particularly helpful of the trains to keep sounding their horns throughout the night.
Local trains Saturday to/from Moorgate, not Kings Cross (special, timetabled engineering works service).
NO trains between Finsbury Park and Kings Cross (late announcement of over-running engineering work).
Tubes will be running but Finsbury Park will be grim.
Ha, and sorry! The local trains to/from Moorgate went by the board, once the extent of the Kings Cross cockup was evident, as I found out this afternoon.
The dot-matrix noticeboards at Highbury just stated that trains that were running would be announced. Think you'd have been waiting till 23.30.
Finsbury Park platform staff were reasonably well briefed.
For Network Rail's report on why Finsbury Park station went into meltdown on 27th December, there's a link to it here.
One local laugh-out-loud moment: a map (on page 14) shows the extent of the 'works possessions', i.e. which lines were closed and occupied by engineering equipment (from Kings Cross right out to New Barnet and Winchmore Hill). The closed lines are marked in red. As is a line from Finsbury Park to Highgate, and onwards up the hill to Alexandra Palace.
Someone at Network Rail thinks the Parkland Walk is still a railway.
