Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hi all,

We'll be moving to the Ladder at the end of the month. I work near Bond Street. Was wondering if you have some tips regarding the quickest route. We'lll live near Harringay Station.

Just wondering if there is a great bus i might be missing. I can come up with a few options such as: walk to Manor House, Piccadilly Line to FBP, FBP Victoria Line to Oxford Circus, walk from there.

I read somewhere that the train from harringay station to FBP is quite busy. I usually leave at 6.30am and return at 18.00ish.

Any ideas much appreciated.

Cheers

You'll be fine at 6.30 harringay rail to Finsbury Park, then the Victoria to Oxford Street .
I do it at same time daily. Best route by far is walk/bus to Manor House then 1 stop on the Piccadilly to FBP then Victoria Line to Oxford Circ then walk. The key here is reliability. I do it in just under thirty minutes and am seldom late. The FCC from Harringay then Victoria Line changing at Highbury is *technically* quicker but you have to factor in the probability of delayed / cancelled trains and/or having to let 2 or 3 go by before you can actually get on one, thus adding around 20 mins to your journey to raise the probability of *possibly* getting there on time, add to that the accompanying stress/uncertainty and freezing your wotsits off on that platform at Harringay, never mind the extra zone on your travelcard and the single rubbish ticket machine. Not worth it.
If you do decide to do the FCC you can change at Highbury by simply walking through to the adjacent platform, it's a mission at FBP with gates, steps then spiral staircases to contend with.

Throwing a six and five in monopoly ?

Great bus you might be missing? Great reduction in cost if you get the 29 from Green Lanes to New Oxford St then walk - £1.45 per single journey.

That's ok if you've got unlimited time. I sometimes get it home if I need to send emails. The walk to New Oxford Street is a hellish 20-odd minutes through zombie-like crowds, then the bus will take over an hour. It is also the worst bus in London in terms of passenger behaviour, although that has improved slightly since they got rid of the bendy bus. It's worth paying the extra few quid for the tube to get an extra ten+ hours of your life back per week

Well, I was only answering the 'great bus' part of the question!

Miss out the zombie crowds by walking along the streets parallel to Oxford St (Brook St + Gt Marlborough St southside, Wigmore + Mortimer +Goodge St northside).

And agree with your earlier comment about the most reliable route, and the extra zone.

Bike? If you take it at a leisurely pace it'll be about 45 mins and you won't need a shower when you arrive.
Many thanks everyone. Really appreciate the feedback.
