Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Last night at the Haringey in Bloom awards ceremony saw Selale win best business award, the GRA come second for best community garden, and Friends of Harringay Passage win the best Neighbourhood Improvement Award. Woohoo, well done all the Harringay gardeners!

Here are some of the photos from the FoHP entry:

Very well done to Liz, Alison and all the Harringay Passage gardeners and also to Sabri for the Selale garden and to Shef for his not inconsiderable role in making that garden what it is.

It looks fantastic. Well done!

Thanks everyone, and thanks Ant for posting this - I know Liz is planning to add some of her own photos later.

It was a really inspiring evening really - there were some fantastic gardens/allotments etc up for awards, and we were a bit flabbergasted (but delighted obviously!) to get the Neighbourhood Improvement award with the work we've been doing on the Harringay Passage. It's great to feel that it's been noticed and given some recognition. Thanks to everyone who has been involved in it over the last year.

If anyone wants to find out more do please let me know, or email Friends of Harringay Passage (info.fohp@gmail.com). Liz and I certainly came away from last night filled with more ambitious plans for next year ..  We'll be kicking off with bulb planting very soon - will post the dates here once we've agreed them.

And just to echo Ant's point about Selale and the GRA community garden doing so well - great to see so many green fingers in our neighbourhood.

Full details of all the 2014 winners are here.

Well done you guys. It certainly does looks great round there. We need to get something like that going in the Big Green Bookshop's yard. It's a Crop Drop collection point but in much need of some TLC. How did you do it?!

Ant was kind enough to add my pictures this morning.

Just to reiterate what Alison has said - there is some fantastic and inspiring work going on across the borough with Haringey having three London in bloom award winners - the winner of the front garden award was also voted best in the capital! - and some wonderful work going on in schools.

Lovely to see a secondary school, Northumberland Park creating a garden, in fact, Tottenham was well represented by Pembury, Rowland Hill and Broadwater Farm Children's Centres and the amazing Living Under One Sun (harking back to Tottenham's market garden and agricultural past).

Also exciting to hear is Stuart McNamara's proposal to turn the borough's front gardens from wheelie bin and mattress parks to more attractive areas. Even a window box or a big plastic washing up bowl full of something colourful can make a big difference.

Also keep your eyes open for the next seed swap - everyone welcome, even without seeds to swap, as there's always plenty spare and lots of gardening advice for new and novice gardeners from Harringay's expert gardeners...and there's beer, as we hold it in the Salisbury.

Congratulations - richly deserved.

Wot no award for window boxes?

There's a front garden award but you'd have to beat the lady who got best in London as well as Haringey to win that one.

Where's that? Sounds like it's worth a look.

47 Donovan Avenue, N10

Where are the wheelie bins?
