Harringay Beer
We might be able to drink our very own Harringay Beer at one of the festivals in the hood, next summer!

Doesn't Clive Carter have an 'in' at the Alexandra Palace allotments, since it would need multiple growers for the hops?

What a great idea, one of my neighbours has hops growing along their wall and it produces loads of the fruiting body or flowers or whatever it's called. It seems easy to grow.

Great idea Jessica. I don't know the first thing about brewing beer (though my brother has occasionally) and I'm not much of a gardener but happy to try and grow some hops it someone can give me some pointers!

You'd be amazed by how many hop flowers it takes to get even a small batch of beer going. My husband used to hop pick as a kid down in Kent with his family and he took me to a hop garden a few years ago to have a go. He finished loads of them in the time it took me to do a handful.
If you get going I'm sure he could be persuaded to give hop scratching lessons - it's a real art.

This idea is sheer genius!
Perhaps you could get it work ell on a monthly basis if the materials wee bought in....
if you go to Germany, they have a lot of pubs with a micro brewery in the cellar. Perhaps we could organise something similar, especially as we head towards the £5 pint.

You can ask a local micro brewery to take your hops and perhaps they could make a brew for you and sell it under the brewerys name.If you make your own beer and sell you must have a licence or you will be breaking the law.I only know this because my husband makes his own harringey beer using homegrown hops but can only give it away .a licence takes a long time to apply for.you need to go through HMRC and enviromental health etc..Recomend Home brewing and hops are so easy to grow.

I'm sure Redemption or Beavertown in N17 would be up for something like this but then it would be a Haringey Beer, might upset the purists.

I live in Haringey but work for a craft brewery in Hackney www.cratebrewery.com. I also home brew and would be very interested in making a beer from local hops!

Hi Everyone,
I realise this is an old thread but I wonder how you all got on. Did you all grow hops last year? A friend and I have just started Wood Green Hopping - a not-for-profit hop growing project. It'd be great to have all or any of you aboard whether you grew hops or not last year.
I will starting a new thread with all the details..
