Out On The Street
I thought some of you might like to see this quick video I took of the Pemberton Play Street yesterday. I swear none of this was staged, including the impromptu ivory tickling by Nigel!!!
Thanks to everyone who marshalled, and those digging over the upper raised bed for a great tidy and lavender re-plant!

Sharon. Abdi was marshalling, and as such he needs to wear a high viz vest- he and the other 15 volunteers who helped out. Other than that, I do not know the relevance of your comment.
Your point about the ethnic mix of the event could be taken as some personal criticism- yes, you have got me banged to rights, I only invite my white middle class friends... What can I say. But, there is also an element of you being right. Abdi was not the only non-anglo at the event (he was just the only one in the shot at that moment). Pemberton is a big road. But, I would love it if others came along too. This is an open event, I publicise it as widely as I can given the means available (PSA, HOL, email addresses of everyone I have). This same observation can be made of so many things that happen around here, though. PSA, various Friends groups etc. Did you go to the screening of ET the other day in Fairlands? You would have made a similar observation there too I suspect. I did.
There is a very good question about how you engage others from the various communities around us, and I would welcome any constructive advice as to how to make out Play Streets as open as possible to as many folks of all cultures as possible. If you have any please do share.
With that, can I respectfully close this particular line of discussion down so the positive news I wanted to share is not taken into a potentially negative direction. Perhaps you might want to move it to a distinct discussion thread- as the question certainly has merit.

Fair enough, but a bit hard not to feel a bit got at Sharon.
Like I said, I genuinely would love to bring as many kids to the Play Street as I can. It really isn't meant to be exclusive, but participation is voluntary as it were...

I'm not sure you can judge a demographic just by watching a short video which only includes a snapshot of who happened to be standing there in that 2 minutes - how about you come along to the next one, meet the people you are judging from a keyboard and bring your reflections and ideas with you? And some children with bikes, scooters, footballs... since that's who these events are organised for.
Alan, you are fond of the blind men and the elephant story I know. Come and observe the elephant for yourself.

Hi Alan, and liz, as I just said, and at Justin's request, this debate is for another thread and for another time. I meant no harm and I apologize if I've ruffled feathers. I'd love to come to the next event, especially to meet Justin. Turns out we are from the same village and have more in common than difference! :-)
