Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

The Harringay Independent Party ... your very own local independent councillors.

Elections are just over 18mths away, including national and local council.

One option could be to have independent councillors represent our ward. The comments in this blog post touched on the topic.

We seem to have a natural line-up of three independents ready to go;

Liz Ixer

Adam Coffman

Hugh Flouch

They are probably a little shy about this whole idea. But with encouragement from yourselves ...... there's a chance of bringing real change to your area.

See the Local Government Association for information.

Of course if these three potential candidates refuse bribes of copious pints of beer and packets of peanuts, there maybe others out there willing to come forward. Or maybe you have someone in mind ...

Harringey Independent Party (HIP)

I'm sure Birdy could rustle up some HIP campaign material of far better design. :)

My husband would divorce me and my children never see me...I have no political ambition at all and don't do parties that don't have champagne and nibbles. Take my name off the ballot paper, add yours Matt?
No not me.

I don't think it's particularly about 'political ambition' as it were. More about supporting this community of ours, which I think the three of you already do very well. But doing so from within (the council structure) could be very productive.
By entering the political arena on the old terms of party political allegiances and doing things via the political classes methods, you are agreeing that these methods are effective and I don't believe that. With the disenchantment of the public with all political parties at an all time high, it would be very arrogant to suggest that simply putting 'Independent' after your name would make people flock to you. People are political and interested but they are recognising that democracy is changing. We have six people in the borough already who want and have chosen to be councillors for Harringay and St Ann's. By getting the Harringay charter off the ground, we should find that they are given more power to effect change at a very local level and support their community more effectively. People like us need to part of THAT process...
For what it's worth I think Liz would be great in Local politics, a real kick up the jacksy within the council.
I refer you to my comment above...
Absolutely Birdy.
I am a cynic of that process.
Which, the charter or the political process?
Interesting thread! Local Conservatives are in the process of selecting candidates for Harringay and St. Ann's. I suspect the other parties are doing likewis?. Sadly, independents tend not to be very successful in London.
Why do you think that is, Justin? ( a genuine question by the way, not a cynical one)
Oh yeah Ken, first time around : )
That was a one-off and you know it.
