Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Several agents boards near me (Langham Road) have been up for yonks and it seems to be the norm now for agents to leave the 'let/managed signs up permanently. Got a bit fed up and emailed Haringey(there is section on the website) email no good so phoned up(highways) After speaking to the first two rude, untrained, poor English persons, I got thru to Maria at Highways who was helpful friendly and promised to get on to it . She called back to say she had been to the addresseds and would be contacting the agents directly. They've started to come down! So its worth the bother, but best to phone......

Thanks Philip - there's signs at our end of Langham rd that have been up for at least 9 years.  Must admit its irritated me but I didn't do anything about it - will now though.  Do you have Maria's surname and the highways number?

Thanks Glen

Hi Glen

I reported signs at the Crescent Road end maybe you mean the ugly ones fixed to the front of two houses (tls agents). Highways number on website or thru the council main reception...

We recently moved onto the road, and our house has one of the boards outside.  Initially I assumed it would be taken down once we were in, but it does now appear that it's a permanent fixture, and it is rather unsightly.  I have been meaning to question it with our agent, but haven't managed to get around to it yet.  With a bit of luck though, this will lead to ours (and the others) disappearing in the near future.  Thanks for being so proactive on it!

I think boards can stay up for 2 weeks after completion. Take it down yourself. The Agents won't be back

They were here the entire time we were viewing the property, and we've been in two months now, and they don't appear to be going anyway.  If it wasn't a rented property, I would pull it down myself, but was starting to think it was just the way of things here given how many of them seem to be on the street. Will see what happens now, and talk to our agent if nothing happens in the near future.

If the sign is on your property you could try taking it down, keeping it safe, and emailing the Estate Agents politely asking them to collect it.

If they don't come within a reasonable time, follow up by telling them you'll be sending them an invoice for looking after it.  Mention the phrase 'involuntary bailment'.  Set a reasonable weekly fee which you might suggest would be met by them making a donation to a local charity.

When I moved into my place I gave it a week or so and then took it down myself and binned it.

I phone up the estate agents and ask them to take the boards down.  They usually do and if they don't I phone again and say I am about to go to the council about it.  That usually does the trick.  They generally claim that they didn't know the board company had not removed it yet.  Unless they are Paul Simon Lettings in which case - good luck.
