Funny how quiet it is on the Labour front. 3 Labour councillors have been voted in and none of them have bothered to post on here.
Perhaps they're still busy receiving orders from their masters. Or maybe they have no one to thank on HoL...

Not quiet in St Ann's. According to the Tottenham and Wood Green Journal Ali Gul Ozbek and Peter Morton have broken their silence on St Ann's Selection Meeting vote-rigging and rule-breaking.
"People are entitled to their views", said Mr Morton.
“I don’t deserve whatever they say on Harringay Online," said Mr Ozbek. "I am there to help my residents, to be a bridge between the residents and the council; I’m there to help them. I am not there to listen to dirt".
I've added a comment to point out the difference between "dirt", "views" and evidenced facts.

Yes Sindhi Chandwani, I know we had 3 votes. Just trying to get across to Lydia that they're fishing from so small a pool that maybe they should field 1 official Tory to gain the same result. After all Labour has a monopoly of Tory candidates, and presumably of Tory voters. Official Cons are wasting their time and breath.

But, particularly with local elections, some will have voted for the individuals rather than parties so one voter may have voted for three different parties so consolidating into one could have made some difference.

First post and just wanted to share some thoughts on the Crouch End ward result. I was disappointed at the result in the Crouch End Ward but in the end not that surprised.
Two of the existing Liberal Democrats councillors (David Winskill and Paul Strang) stood down and the other Lyn Weber was standing as an Independent although when elected last time round she was Liberal Democrat (not sure what the story was there).
The Labour party seem to have targeted this ward and in fairness to them have been very active over the last few months (on the doorstep and online) although they have been very quiet over the 8 years I've been living here. This approach seemed to be in complete contrast to the incumbent Liberal Democrats who seemed tired, lethargic and resigned to losing months ago.
When you look at the results for the ward certain things stand out:
1. The 647 votes that went to the independent candidate Lyn Weber seem to have split the Liberal Democrat vote and allowed Labour to take two out of three council seats. I wonder if she had stood as a Liberal Democrat whether she would have polled more votes.
2. In a ward which on the face of it would seem to be prime Conservative territory do they perform so badly; even less than the Green party
3. It is well known that Haringey is one of the worst run borough's in the country and yet people decide to elect more Labour candidates; baffling that one.
Finally just wanted to say a big thank you to David Winskill (former Lib Dem councillor) for his sterling work and "can do" attitude in the ward over the past 12 years; you will be missed David.

Maybe in the last millenium, but no longer - it was Labour for years (Hornsey MP was Barbara Roche, Labour, from 1992-2005), then Lib Dem since, but few remember any Tories, even in Highgate. In distant Stroud Green, arguably a more 'Lib Dem' place, all three Lib Dems were replaced by Labour.

This is a lie, plain and simple, hammered home by the Lib Dems for years. Haringey has a lot of poverty, but it appears in various positions in the various league tables. Maybe a more important point is that, notwithstanding your colourful views, we know for sure that most people want Labour in power, and they want Labour to have more power than previously. That needs respecting. Maybe people realised that the constant promotion of the lie that Labour-run Haringey were 'failing' was what confirmed people's realisation that you can't trust the Lib Dems.
Whenever you attempt to consider a view that encompasses local people, please accept that those people who live here are Labour supporters, and have been Labour supporters all their lives, through thick and thin, over fifty years now - they are the majority.

Completely agree that David Winskill has more than earned the respect he is held in throughout the ward, not just due to his high integrity and unremittingly hard work on behalf of all of us, but also because he's a really nice guy who's care is genuine.
Have to ask though, what did the Lib Dems achieve in Crouch End over the last decade? Ought Harringay to have them too? They spent a lot of time and money rubbishing the Council, but when it came to alternatives to Labour's ideas for us, they had none I can find, except to impose budget cuts even more draconian than the Tories. The most important development by far in my eyes is the re-opening of the huge campus that is Hornsey Town Hall, bang in the middle of our town - a place David once worked at, cares a lot about and has had his turn at being a Director of the org set up by the council to represent the local view. Did the Lib Dems make any difference at all to the outcome? No. Are they in favour of what is happening? Nobody knows. Is there a more important development in Crouch End in living memory? No.
Now that Crouch End have returned two Labour councillors, there is an even bigger gulf between the Lib Dems and Labour in our ward.
A big difference in theory is that Labour can actually get things done in the ward, whereas all the Lib Dems seemed to be able to do was use the reporting system to alert Council Officers to problems residents can just as easily report themselves.
What they couldn't seem to do was influence the Council to make any substantive improvements that were 'Lib Dem' in nature - what would 'Lib Dem' in nature be, exactly?
What improvements have been brought to Crouch End by the Lib Dems? I got a lot of leaflets put through the door claiming 'victory' every time the council did something they agreed with. 20mph speed limit? A win for Lib dems after years of hard campaigning! (Lie) Pinkham Way defeated - it's those cheeky Lib Dems again! (Lie) Whittington Hospital saved? Thank goodness for plucky little ConDemmers! (Lie).
The sad result of these past Lib Dem years of negative campaigning and no ideas at all that advanced is that people's dislike of the council was fanned and Crouch Enders became apathetic, not bothering to even express a view, except to believe that the council was rubbish - makes it even more amazing that so many Labour Councillors got elected here. How can Haringey Council justify spending even a penny on the rich West when the East (across the 'Berlin Wall' of a railway line between us) is in such obvious need? Is is right to spend the minimum here because of that?
The question for me is, can Crouch Enders be bothered now there's a real chance for change or will they remain indifferent whatever the Council proposes? My advice to the new Councillors is to square up to the council-bashing and help people realise that they can't have it both ways - either put up or shut up.
