Don't Blame the Council, it's China's Fault
You may have noticed a certain lack of progress with finishing the works on Green Lanes. Well, this time round we can't look to blame thee Council or TfL. Apparently, we're waiting for a shipment of granite to arrive from China and it's being repeatedly delayed.

That doesn't explain the bizarrely designed and, IMHO, poorly made and dangerous cycle parking racks, though - unless they're planning to clad them in Chinese granite, I suppose...
The racks have really sharp corners on them and are the same colour as the pavement. It won't be long before a child runs into one. I know we can't protect against every possible harm and kids have to learn, and so on, but there are plenty of better designs around! I hope they are not currently finished and some magic will happen to make them better.

I WOULD like to know more about these cycle 'hoops' as I've never seen their like elsewhere.
For those that haven't seen them, they appear to be about a square inch in cross-section, straight, metal extrusions. From the side, they appear as a 'square bracket' rather than as a rounded hoop. The top horizontal piece is welded/brazed to the two vertical uprights.
They would appear to offer fewer locking positions/heights (?)
Has anyone shackled a bike to one yet?
Any good?

Sigh. It does look a mess, and such delights as the pool of cooking oil that has been liberally spilled all over the new granite corner at Stanhope Gardens; the chewing-gum, vomit and dog-doo collage that is rapidly covering the newly laid surfaces; and the rapidly-melting blobs of tarmac that serve as "disabled ramp access" on practically every corner from St Annes Road down to the bridge don't help.
But count yourselves lucky, folks. Colina Road isn't even on the regeneration plan. We have practically no slabs along the entire length that are not broken, and the garden on the corner of Harringay Road seems to have developed a new use as the dumping ground for everyone in the neighbourhood's rubbish!

That is just really stupid. Did you get the registration number? Pavements all over London are cracked because of just this kind of thing, businesses taking money from the public realm by being careless.

And a lack of planning by those who redesigned this corner. Maybe there is no place else the beer lorry can park to get the beer into the pub? I'm not excusing this but perhaps there is no other way?
Lack of joined up thinking when changing this corner?

Perhaps he can park on the road which is designed to take his weight?

I don't know as never looked but maybe that hole where they roll the barrels down is just right there on the pavement… but of course could still park on the road where, I believe, cars, lorries etc are supposed to be?

It's obvious that Haringey Planning couldn't organise a piss-up in a brewery the Salisbury. Similarly, they can't organise a food festival in a street lined with food stores and restaurants.
As regards the paving stones - why can't Haringey force the contractors to put down ordinary slabs as a temporary measure until the Ming Dynasty ones arrive ?
