Don't lose your voice! Vote with your feet
Plato said that if you don't engage in politics you end up being ruled by your inferiors — a sentiment that I'm sure many people share today. Whether it's the Labour Council or the LibDem government that you can't stand, why not stand up and do something about it by joining this campaign to get people to register to vote.
Perhaps if more people exercised their democratic rights politicians would be less complacent and maybe listen to what people really want.
I'm not saying this is the entire solution, but it's a start, so why not sign up and vote with your feet and help this grass-roots door-knocking campaign

For Labour in Haringey, it's the same people with the same party machine. Same Voter ID and all the other tricks and techniques. In one sense there is almost no real party politics - meaning proper local democracy and discussion. Its main task is as an election machine.
Look at the tweets and group selfie photos.
Haringey councillors pay a levy from their Council allowances (public money). Which goes into Labour Group Funds. From which significant sums are passed to Party funds and used for election campaigns. This pays for a lot of the printing and other expenses needed to run a campaign. So, for example Cllr Joanna Christophides is the Labour Party part-time Election Organiser. Her salary is paid from these Party funds.
No more fairy stories. Look behind the curtain.

Alan, you say "are you seriously encouraging people to sign up and to go along to vote on 22 May, thereby legitimating a process that stinks to high heaven?" It seems to assume that people will vote for those candidates. I assume there will be a number of others people could vote for. I personally may not want to vote for certain candidates but I sure as hell want as many people to get out and vote, whoever they may cast their vote for.

When the young Hackney Labour activists help campaign in the next local
election say thank you and well done, great campaigners, I hope Harringay
branch can attract some equally vibrant campaigners to the ranks active
locally, don't wait till you have kids, it's a great way to feel a belonging in your
community that will keep you here for years to come.

If all elections were as close fought at the one in your village I'm sure we would have a much healthier system.
And revolutions don't have to be bloody. The No Dams protests saved what is now a world heritage site.
