Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

New Pavements so Good you Could Eat your Dinner off them

Walking home this evening I was struck by how nice Harringay's new pavements look; more airport terminal than high street.

I can see you are speechless Hugh…. lost for words!

These pavements are so good apparently the Red Bull team have been in the area scouting opportunities for one of their many global come hyper-local splashes across all media platforms, showcasing the best skateboarders in the world - pavement races from Ducketts to Harringay Bridge in minutes, thanks to the super smooth, super safe pavements slotted into place to bring our Grande Parade up to the Kensington standard. It's all good.

I actually like the fact the paving has been improved. Less trip hazards, easier pushing a buggy and more level. They will get dirty which can not be blamed on the coucil. I agree with the other comments on the pocket parks. Lets hope they materialise

I remember the artist's impression of the finished works posted here and in various documents.

The reality has been hugely dissapointing.

You guys are so lucky, on our West Green Road they've freshly tarmacked a small section of our pavements - no fancy paving round here :(

sorry to be so cynical as yes they do look smart-

but when so many really important services have been closed by the council, I cant see how they can be so brazen in their total wasting of public money, yet willing to put people's lives in danger with their cut backs- totally outrageous, so yes the comfortably off souls are happier having pretty pavements whilst the people who are really strugggling probably havent even noticed new pavements or care

sorry dont get me started on the council wasting money-

I understand your frustration, but for the record, it's not Haringey Council money; It 's Borisbucks. It's part of a scheme to help local high streets thrive.

I see as part of the 'improvements' the bike parking outside Tesco has gone. Seems an odd way to enhance trade!

Maybe will be put back once it's all done? I think bike parking also removed in other places but the work isn't finished so let's see. Disappointing to see the same old horrible rubbish bins put back, however. Thought there might be new snazzy ones.

Perhaps. Weird way to do it though - to lay the paving then dig up the new paving to install bike parking. In the mean time the 9% of Green Lanes shoppers (Haringey Council statistic) who arrive by bike might be finding somewhere else to spend their money!
Yep thats what they id in Seven Sisters in front of the Wards Corner building. They actually cut the paving stones and not dig them up!
Unfortunately money does seem to be very very very tight and we don't always get the best of things and opportunities are lost to use the best quality design.
I guess we don't merit the extra effort and have to be thankful for small mercies. We are poor!
