Yes, daffodil stems are a good 8-10cms out. Bushes & tress budding. Birds very territorial & active. Foxes also very active. We haven't had a cold snap yet. Everything will slow down if we do.
Earlier and earlier it feels like. But Matt is right. A cold snap will put a lot of this on...er...ice.
Strangely, I still have roses on a bush in my front garden. Can't really call that a sign of spring though - just a confused rose. I planted zillions of bulbs (to go with the hundreds I planted in 2011), so I'm really looking forward to the spring to see if they all come up!
As for the birds singing at dawn, around my way they seem to sing during most of the night too. I've occasionally gone to bed late (1am+) and hear the birds from the bathroom window. When I need to get up in the middle of the night, I hear them again. Do hope they do it in shifts, or they're going to be exhausted the following day! Wonder if it has anything to do with some of the street lights nearby, which are shaped like the sun. Anyone know?
There have been studies done that suggest birds are singing at night because it's quieter then - less urban noise means they can hear each other!
Thanks Matt - I can stop worrying about them not getting enough sleep now!

Hugh, did you clamber up the tree for that shot? Liz, I recognise the little cluster of pink flowers, anyone know what they are?
