Despite out pleas with the councillors to stage this on Green Lanes (and I'd even sent the kaftan to the dry cleaners in anticipation), the Car Free Day will be held on Wood Green High Street
From the council website
"Car stereos and exhaust fumes in Wood Green High Road will make way for street entertainment, cycling displays and information stalls at a new Car Free Day event organised by Haringey Council and the Sustainable Haringey network.
The council will be shutting the High Road to traffic on Sunday 28 September to stage the event, which marks an annual International Car Free Day to promote alternative transport.
Residents and shoppers will be able to enjoy entertainment, music, food and drinks stalls and much more during the public event, which will run from 10am to 4pm.
They will also have the chance to try out cycles and find out ways they can help improve the environment through information stalls from community and environmental groups, the council and Transport for London, which is helping to fund the event.
Cabinet Member for Environment and Conservation, Cllr Brian Haley, said:
"Part of our new Greenest Borough strategy will involve trying to convince residents that there are good, practical alternatives to travelling around by car.
"The Car Free Day will give people the chance to see what Wood Green High Road would be like without the vehicles that stream down it, as well as learn more about what they can do to improve the environment for future generations.
"I hope residents from across the borough will come down to the High Road, have a good time, and hopefully take away a little bit of inspiration to join us in trying to make Haringey the greenest borough in London."
The road closure will be in place from 7am to 8pm between the High Road's junctions with Turnpike Lane and Gladstone Avenue. Details of diversions will be announced by Haringey Council nearer the time.
It is the second time that Haringey has marked Car Free Day, which was originally launched by the European Union in 2000."
Read Clr Haley's comment and then be afraid, very afraid Wightman Road residents
