After it was discovered at the St Ann's Labour Party selection candidate selection meeting that there were people present and voting who should not have been, I came home from the pub (where I'd heard about it) and wrote this article. It has subsequently been edited by site admins to remove the names of people who were embarrassed or in the final case where a journalist said it was potentially libellous. Well here I will attempt to summarise what we have subsequently found out and hopefully take people's attention away from my original appalling rant.
*An individual has asked that their name be replaced with their function in this post on the grounds that they are not seeking public office. This has been done.

According to Joe Goldberg just now on Twitter, if the three sitting councillors are up for selection again then it's OK to just select them. The deselection of Brian Haley in 2010 was possible because Robert Harris did not stand in 2010. The deselection of Zena and David was possible because Nilgun did not stand.
Were there no stops, checks and balances-no
That's a seriously crappy rule. How are party members and thus the electorate, to get shot of incumbents who are less than satisfactory? As long as they can persuade their buddies to stay put, they have a job for life. Wrong, wrong, wrong.
In a previous post I said the Labour Party Rule Book is available online to all party members. It is. But I've since seen that it's also available to anyone else. Here's a link.
If your gerbils don't need their toenails trimmed, or if there's nothing even less urgent or interesting to do, then have a quick look at Page 74. The paragraph numbered 3 is where the Party Rules allow the coronation and anointment shortlisting of the three sitting councillors, should branch members attending be sufficiently sycophantic and complacent wise and discerning.
Jokes aside - though of course the selection of candidates for Seven Sisters ward is no joke - I've always thought it was healthy to have a reasonable shortlist, Say, five or 6 people.
For one thing, it means that branch members get to see and listen to new people. It also gives new people a chance to meet branch members and find out about another ward. And they can practice their skills. Several existing councillors say the right sort of things. But when other voices are let in to these often stale echo chambers, it's possible to realise its sometimes vacuous noise.
Like any job interview there's a danger of choosing the safe internal candidate and not looking at the talent around.
Claire Kober will definitely get involved if you give her a photo opportunity.
Do you think it is acceptable to refer to BAME Cllrs as Martians - i.e aliens ?
Black and Minority Ethnic
It's a figure of speech called metaphor. I cannot see any reason to think that he was singling out BAME councillors.
I read it as referring to a clique of activists within the Labour party irrespective of ethnicity. Perhaps we should let Mr Waterhouse clarify if he wants to.
You do realise your last reply will be very offensive to Martians ?
( oh, I see you deleted it )
It is a very unfortuante metaphor and the comment does refer to Cllrs who it is believed claim to represent certain communities.
Ok Ms Ibrahim here goes- for legal reasons I had to use a metaphor. As a long suffering resident in St Anns Ward I am fed up to the back teeth with personal agendas, incompetent and unprofessional selection processes, losing five councillors in three years and the lack of real leadership from King Kober. I make no apologies for the metaphorical statement. Sometimes the truth hurts, tough.
