Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

After much toing and froing I was told late last week that the application to close Pemberton Road for our inaugural Play Street has been approved. So, our first event will be held on Sunday the 20th of October between 2 and 5pm.

I will send more details near the time but please do both come and spread the word. Please send me your email address if you want me to put you on the  mailing list so you do not miss events through the year

Can you also know if you would be happy to act as either a volunteer or a marshal on the day.

  • Volunteer-  wear a high viz vest and be generally available to keep an eye on things during the event
  • Marshal- to help secure the street and marshal traffic in and out of the road. This will require a dedicated slot of time at various points on the road.

Well done Justin! They are great events, the Avondale/Clarendon play street has been going since July (last Sunday of every month folks). Last month we had an impromptu party with food, drink and bunting, grown-ups can play in the street as well!

There is no doubt that the biggest challenge is getting enough stewards.

Thanks Richard, appreciate the thought. Paul Wheeler has been very helpful getting this together. I have a god list of folks lined up for the marshalling, but more would be welcome- not least because it means those marshalling have to do it for shorter stints.

That said, it is going to be a great afternoon. No cars! What can I say?

Congratulations on making this happen.

It is great for children to play outside their homes in their local community. Streets are far more interesting places for play and I hope it goes well.

Cllr, St. Ann's Ward

That's very kind of you Zena. I appreciate the support you and your fellow councillors (Nilgun, Karen Alexander and ultimately John) have all shown.

If you come please do say hi.

You know, I also believe that these events can be a powerful method of bringing adults together, and reducing the community severance impacts cars can inflict. Long may it last.
