It being the school holidays I've been taking the kids going out for lunch in the neighbourhood over the last couple of weeks. As well as the usual places you'd expect such as Cafe Lemon or Shamata, we're also trying new places and this week, as we've been spending every morning at Downhills Park for the summer tennis lessons, we thought we'd give The Banc, opposite the Philip Lane entrance of the park, a go for lunch.
The Banc opens at 12 for lunch during the week (except on Mondays) and so we were the first ones in. We were given a warm and attentive welcome and quickly settled into a booth with drinks and the lunch menu, which offers a main for £5.95. As my daughter is something of a burger connoisseur, she opted for the adult sized classic burger (below) and I decided to try the vegetarian falafel burger. There were also several non burger options on the lunch menu
There is a kids menu and my boy went for chicken goujons for £4.50 from this menu. They were fresh and delicious and came with chips and salad.
Be warned. The burgers are big! And very scrummy. They come with proper hand made chips too. Here's my falafel burger
The lunch with drinks and a double expresso for me came to £22 and the kids really didn't want anything else for the rest of the day
I would certainly recommend a trip to The Banc as a summer holiday lunch time treat. Jump on the 341 and combine it with a trip to the lovely Downhills Park and/or Lordship Rec opposite. They also have baby chairs.

thanks - looks great. I have been meaning to go to this place for ages and now definitely will....
Hi Liz, We went here for hubby's birthday with 3 tetchy kids under the age of 8 and had a great time. Food fantastic and staff helpful. Love it!
I would definitely recommend the Lamb Chops.......absolutely delicious!
Only been here twice and it's already one of our fav restaurants in the area
I tried this place just now for lunch - yes, the burger is amazing and great value. As I was feeling sorry for myself following a trip to the (always fantastic) nearby dentist, I splurged on desert - they do a killer banoffee pie which is very nicely packaged. I usually resent £4.95 deserts but this was actually worth it. Much better than most equivalent meals in town, I have to say, and I hope this place stays around.
