Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
Can anyone advise please on Sneeky baliffs.
I had a caller to my door today, the only reason i answered was the insistance of the knocking!
When i opened the door i was asked if John was in ? to which i said no one by that name here,this person then said "you must be" and gave me my name so obviously said yes , I have a dispute with the council re- council tax non dependant deduction which is on going ,so when matey at my door said i am here to collect i explained the situtation and aslo the fact that i am making good will gesture payments until the council get their finger out anyway he asked for proof so without thinking !!! i said i have e-mails which he then wanted to see !! BIG MISTAKE!
He was in my hallway, anyway showed the proof, hindsight is great ! His reply was i am here to collect the balance in full initally it was £600 but from the time he entered my hallway it had gone up by another £240 so now £842.66p! obviously i said no way you can't do that ,and asked him to leave you can imagine the answer i got " i'm not going until i collect or call a removal van which will be another £250 and my money increases hourly! if you have not got the money call someone with a credit or debit card" I called haringey council but had to wait so long for cus.service which did not help but the lady did say i should not have paid him and also when i asked him to leave he should have. He also informed me that he has more power than the police so i would be waisting my time calling them. I am so angry at the whole incident ,should i let it go ? or is there anything i could do?.

As this was related to a council tax debt, you can contact your local councillor and/or make a complaint through the LA complaints procedure.
This is the section from Citizen's Advice website AdviceGuide on complaining about bailiffs relating to local authorities. There is a lot more information if you click through to that link.
Complaining to the local authority about council tax bailiffs
Your local authority should have a policy about how the council tax bailiffs should behave and what they are expected to do. For example, there may be a policy about what repayment arrangements the bailiffs should accept or how long the bailiffs should try to get back money for a council tax debt before they give up.
If you think the bailiffs are behaving unreasonably, ask the local authority for a copy of their policy on collecting council tax arrears. If the bailiffs aren’t following the policy properly, you can make a complaint through the local authority complaints procedure or speak to your local councillor.

Hi Karen
Spoke with the council today and wasadvised to make formal complaint directly to Equita and also asked to send acct. of what happened to themslves at the council . Will keep you posted.
