Harringay online

Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

On my way past this afternoon, I noticed that there was finally some activity in the long empty shop on the corner of Lothair Road and Green Lanes.

I poked my head in and had a short chat with the owner Haldun. He's in the middle of creating what sounds like a welcome new addition to Harringay.

The former "sauna" is to become a new cafe, Tramp. The interior looks like it's going to be a bit of treat. Haldun is using a range a genuine antique materials to create an interior with a mish-mash of historical styles. One of his sources is the King's Arms Hotel on Edgware Road which is just being demolished to make way for a new five star hotel.

It sounds like it won't just be the interior that's different. Haldun told me that as well as being a cafe Tramp it will be a classical music venue with music from Europe, Turkey and elsewhere.

Like the sound of that? You shouldn't have long o wait. Tramp is due to be open by 22nd April at the latest so that Haldun can host his own 50th birthday party!

This is the old knocking shop on the corner, right? Any diea what they're doing behind that white structrure on Lothair Road North? Looked to me the other day like they were breaking through the wall. If so, does that need planning permission, and if so, do they have it?
No, I've no idea I'm afraid.

Dear rosyrose,

Why do people get involved with planning permission issues if it has nothing to do with them??

Couldn't have put it better myself Alan.

But where does that leave the Isle of Man ?

Possibly Cem because there have been so many utterly illegal and shabby conversions round here that nobody is able to do anything about unless you spot it early and hang in there until something gets done. That's why, perhaps? You think we should all just mind our own business unless it is the property next door?

I think maybe Cem because this is a community website, and community stretches further than just next door neighbour.

Had a bit of a peer through the window yesterday. Looks incredible inside.
Any news on when it will open? I am new in this area and am also curious to hear where else to go for a wee bit of classical music?
Nothing more from me at this stage.

They play classical music in Turnpike Tube station. It's to discourage teenagers from congregating there

I know! How wonderful is that! :-)
