Dogs in Haringey must be kept on a lead on all public streets after April 1 when Dog Control Orders come into force after feedback from residents.
The Dog Control Orders, introduced by the council, also stipulate that dogs will be banned from all children's playgrounds and from marked pitches when being used, but dogs can still walk off lead in most of the boroughs parks.
Any breach of an order can lead to an £80 penalty or a £1,000 fine.
The council is keen to stress that where a penalty (FPN) is issued no cash will be exchanged, these are not "on-the-spot" fines. An authorised officer will issue a notice with details of where and how the penalty can be paid, much the same as a parking ticket.
The orders say:
Enforcement will be by police, council officers and some Homes for Haringey officers who will be authorised to issue Fixed Penalty Notices (FPN) for any breaches.
Details are on the Council website at www.haringey.gov.uk/dogcontrol.

I welcome this, the only thing worse than avoiding dog dirt in the street is all the spitting. Can we start fining people who spit in the street?
Councillors?
How many owners take their dog for a walk with their id? Will the officers walk the offenders home to fetch it?
You can't fine people for spitting in the street any more than you can fine them for polluting the atmosphere by farting.
I agree. And a sample could be taken for DNA evidence to be used if the case went to appeal.
Spitting in the street can potentially spread diseases and it is just disgusting, do you want to drag someone elses phlegm into your house on your shoes? I sure as hell don't. Farting doesn't quite have the same affect and I do need to avoid standing on a fart on the street.
I meant don't need to avoid standing on a fart in the street...obviously!
I own two dogs.
I think all dogs should be muzzled in public.
Not sure about making them wear nappies though.
Good news. After our neighbours' cat was savaged by some vile little thug's so-called pet, I'm all for anything that helps tackle the problem - I think this does have the potential to be a good deterrent, but I fear it will take a lot of policing and will believe the results when I see them.
Interesting reading ... but i think it could be clearer.
Also have just tried to use the Haringey 'interactive' map. Not easy and somewhat out of date (see pic below).
For Ducketts Common it still shows tennis courts and no gym. Suggestion ... it might be worth HC contacting Google to see if they could use their maps instead.
Plus ... i appreciate it might be a bit of work but individual pdf docs for each park, showing the affected areas would really help.
This will only work for the people who are already responsible dog owners, and are already keeping dogs in leads, cleaning up etc.
The antisocial little s**ts who are abusing staffies on a regular basis, effectively turning them in to dangerous dogs will not care about this. Doubt they can even read. And how do the council suggest they enforce this? How are they going to get the money out of these people? They can't even enforce building regulations, so how are they going to get to peopoe who are moving around..?
We need enforcement not legislation, we cannot count on current laws being enforced never mind new ones.
Again dog owners are being penalised for the actions of a few.
I had two dogs until a couple of years ago, one was a loon which I always kept on a lead (even in the park) the other was completely obedient and well trained.
