I have again asked for some enforcement action by the council against HGVs using Wightman Road and the ladder roads.
I am pleased to say that I have just had an email from the Parking Infrastructure Manager to say that they will be carrying out some enforcement this week between 7am and 8.30am.
Lets hope it starts to send a message to the companies that they lorries belong to.
The council carried some further enforcement last week, on three separate occasions resulting in another 17 HGVs being stopped and issued with penalty notices. The parking infrastructure manager wants to consider doing some more enforcement over the coming weeks. Lets hope that this starts to get the message out to lorries illegally using our roads. I will speak to him about enforcement on the ladder roads too but of course enforcement on Wightman Road does by definition have a knock on effect.
Well done again Karen. Nobody else has been able to get this done since Wightman was made 20mph.
Although, you won't catch Jewson by just concentrating on Wightman I think that is more than sufficient given the obviously limited resources of the council. Especially if they can alternate with either end of Wightman.
agreed - it's more than just Wightman. A full on low loader articulated lorry came up Warham today. Unfortunately no company name etc on it.
That might have been going to the VolkerFitzpatrick construction site at Hornsey Station.
Well it should have come up Green Lanes, along Turnpike Lane, left into Wightman and right into the top bit of Hampden. That is the law.
I am just guessing. Volker will have a traffic plan that will be forwarded to everyone that has to use the site. You will always get some rogue drivers. If someone breaks their rules I would expect Volker to resolve the issue very rapidly
I agree with John. Another round of applause for Karen. As for Jewsons, I think that great progress can be made without any additional cost for the council - at the moment Jewsons are under the impression that the Council has given them their blessing to use whatever ladder roads they like whenever they like. No additional layout would be required for the Council were to make clear to them that this is not the case. Karen, given your impressive ability to get Council As into G, is there any chance you could get a clear statement of the position from the appropriate person? As detailed above, my attempts have come to naught.
Thanks Karen
If there is any way you can get them to find out who goes down Burgyone Road between 1am and 5am in the morning, that would be good too. I've been woken up several times over the last week - I suspect it's Veolia collecting refuse from Green Lanes, but what confuses me is why they need to go down Burgoyne?
Thank you Karen, this is a really good effort.
It is a really good effort but to have effective policing of 20mph zones and HGV traffice cameras are needed. Does anyone know why the council does not invest in cameras with some of all the money it makes on parking fines?
These are known as "moving violations" from what I understand and you can't just use cameras. They will have been pulling the drivers over and asking them where they're going to etc. Tedious and manual work but hopefully they're getting a small fine and a warning that next time it will be the big one.
Karen. As an observation I think the biggest issue on Pemberton is vehicles taking the raised hump (and the other humps I assume) at speed. Some of the biggest offenders for this are bin wagons- Veolia and the ones picking up from Yasha at the bottom of the road, and delivery trucks, I assume mainly for Yasha.
I am guessing there is precious little we can do about the Yasha trucks and bin wagon (as it looks like a private contractor) but can we have a word somehow with the Veolia guys (this I assume is under the Council's controls to a degree)? It is mainly wagons using the road to cut to Green Lanes, not the ones actually doing a collection.
I stood talking to a neighbour yesterday and the ground literaly shook under my feet as a wagon simply cruised over the humps.
