Just noticed a closure sign about the N4 sorting office.
I couldn't be more infuriated about this now. They're moving to the existing depot down the other side of Holloway Road. I used to live in Holloway and that was my local depot. Now a 300 yard trip to the sorting office to see John and pick up my vinyl purchases is going to be a 6 mile round trip!

Hi Michael
No short cuts; suggest W5
Please see above for a full report (previous page)
BTW, I was not knocked down by bumping into Isidoros; I slipped up about half an hour later on Station Road approaching the depot. The only entrance is from the south western end of this road, not far from Tufnell Park tube (Northern Line).
Pretty reliable. Nobody should have to take two buses to pick up their mail, mind you.
I am really not impressed with this. As someone who works usual 9-5 office hours and doesn't own a car, this seems like it's going to be even more difficult to get to. Will probably have a chat with my manager to see if it would be ok getting my parcels delivered to work so I actually have a chance of getting them!
TfL journey planner says it's going to take me almost an hour to get there by bus!
I already do this - haven't had anything delivered to my home address beyond utility letters for years.
I know my office generally frown on personal deliveries (just creates more work for the poor guy in the post room and we're already short staffed :-/) but if I have a chat with my manager to explain it to her hopefully I'll be able to get a pass, even if they just leave stuff in the post room for me to pick up!
*nod* in my office it's just accepted as the only real solution that works - I did feel sorry for the reception guys at Christmas though :(
I'd heard about it and have just had a letter from Royal Mail confirming it.
I too am incensed about it - I get quite a few packages and have to go down to the sorting office to pick them up. What was a 20-30 min trip looks like it could now be a two-hour trip.
Does anyone know how many other local sorting offices they are closing and moving here?
The Delivery Office for N4 (back of the Arena near Sainsburys) is closing on Saturday 26 January; the N8 Delivery Office is also closing.
I understand from a conversation this morning with the bloke in the parcel's collection office, is that one of the Royal Mail's diffiulties is finding a suitably large facility in N4.
The new facility is apparently vast, which is no consolation for N4 and N8 residents especially for those of whom are elderly or disabled. For the rest of us, its just a nuisance having to go over towards Archway. The "North London Delivery Centre" is midway between Upper Holloway and Tufnell Park tube stations. I can see the round trip taking 90 minutes with waiting time.
It'll cause more work for the post office (with costs not directly apportionable) as there'll be more people requesting re-deliveries:
The chap I collected my parcel from in the N4 Delivery Office before Christmas told me that the N8 office had had a reprieve and was no longer moving. I haven't seen any confirmation of that but I haven't really looking, being in N4.
Actually, that seems like an obvious idea now you mention it - seems to work in the US. Wonder why more people aren't resorting to this?
We seem to be losing several services in Harringay and the Borough as a whole - from postal sorting offices to GP walk in services - are we the less deserving or too complacent! M
