Reducing Car use
So I was dropped past the Arena Shopping centre today. A luxury, but we'd just taken the dog to the Vet and my partner wanted to pick up some stuff from Sainsburys. Leaving the car park we ended up behind a car that then parked on Umfreville road. The Greenlanes end of Umfreville. I'm not usually a pollution nazi, but c'mon. The time taken sitting in the queue to leave the carpark would surely be comparable to driving. Are we that lazy as a society? I thought the one mile drive from the Top of Beresford to Sainsbury's was a little lazy.

agree entirely in principle. but how do you know the car hadn't been driven from somewhere else to sainsbury's first?

Perhaps you need to know the facts of their life before judging? I sometimes stop at Sainsbury's in the car on my way home from somewhere and pick up the shopping - I live very close but it's not always easy or convenient to walk home carrying heavy shopping. I was quite ill for a number of years and I certainly could not have done it then. Be glad that you have the strength and health to choose to walk or cycle instead of driving.

I would have assumed they'd gone to Sainsbury's after somewhere else, or that they were visiting friends on Umfreville Rd, or..... actually I probably would have assumed nothing.

Of course if you knew them or knew of them through some local social networking website or something then you'd have a few more answers.
Knowing your neighbours (admittedly stretching from Beresford to Umfreville is tricky for someone from Australia who probably has learning difficulties) is the most important thing we can do with this site. 5 years in, >5000 members and we're stil not there.
That brings me to another point. September is HoL drinks month. 19th anyone? Should we put flyers through doors at the bottom of Umfreville to try to get these people to attend?
Or Adrian, and you would have looked like a bit of a dork admittedly although Hugh seems to manage it with some panache, you could have introduced yourself to them - just because they lived near you ;)

Don't think the learning difficulty comment is appropriate or amusing. Sure people with learning difficulties have more important things to think about. Doubly sure they could write better comment replies.
