Can I just say, that I saw Jessica first raise the idea on HoL about a market in Harringay about 3-4 months ago and the way she has just grabbed the bull by the horns and made this happen is admirable.
An amazing event, great mix of good quality suppliers, (didnt feel like a cheap car boot sale), lovely atmosphere, really nicely laid out using what was already in the playground. I didnt actually feel I was in a playground.
I took loads of pics and did find it annoying as every stall had customers and I just couldnt get the shots I wanted, but that is testiment to what a success it was.
I know the council are planning on opening up a market in Tottenham, I really hope that they put their pride aside and examine the model used here to replicate and hope we dont end up with a place you can buy 8 toilet rolls for a pound.
Really inspirational project & a pleasure to see it come to fruition :) xXx

Hi Seema
Your pictures looks very attractive and tasty. They are very colorful especially when they are together.
This is great kind of advertising and please keep going...
Yay! I had a great time too. Went at lunchtime and inevitably wound up settling down for a good hearty meal in that little 'Pagoda'. The Japanese/American fusion stall (Hello Kitchen) was amazing!
I really do hope the council pays some attention to what's been done here, too. Tbh the fact that Harringay Market was not suggested in the 'which markets do you normally frequent?' question in the consultation questionnaire was not encouraging, but I suppose it is very new (and there was the option to add it, which I did!)
They managed to forget the indoor market at Seven Sisters too, just 50-odd stalls that have been there everchanging for decades. Obviously they have already bulldozed it in their minds.
If Grainger wins long-term (and a battle may be lost but the war is by no means over) I bet there will be a big fight to be the one who presses the detonator button. Now let me think who would be first in the queue....
Good point, funny how they managed to overlook that one :(
The photos you have taken of the market give me the impression of a Crouch End shopping trip, were are the 8 toilet rolls for a pound (if theyre recyclable)!
I think a good mix of stalls the answer, I think many locals like myself would want to hunt for the bargins as we can afford little else! Organic food is the way to go in my books but whats the point if you cannot afford to buy it?
I would like to see a good mix of stalls that reflect the needs of its locals, a good mix of creativity, culture and price ranges to suit all. I dont know why you cannot have the high end with the low end if its designed right and creatively sourced. It would be great if there is music, talent and diversity included with stage area's for resting and eating home made fare so that you could make a day of it all and make it special to Tottenham.
It would be great to have the stall 4 all model included with a stall for local creatives to dip their toes into self employment and locals who have other talents to sell or have a platform from which to advertise themselves whether that be as a plummer or fitness coach.
Another stall could be for local schools to sell their own produce and show of their creativity.
Shopping in a market which has a great variety of stalls and is outdoors and has a great creative vibe... mix of local creative offerings, painting, jewellery, home made clothes etc and has a mix of local cultures as well as the cheaper end stuff is nothing like shopping in Lidl or Green lanes where it is dominated by certain cultures and certainly not a good vibrant mix.
The eggs 6 for a pound free range are a good buy though this is great lets see more of this!
Or perhaps markets in Haringey should just be for the middle classes and the lower classes can be left happily ensconced in Lidl and Green Lanes... now theres a thought!
I hear what you're saying about wanting a better mix of prices, but please let's not spoil the ambiance with budget bog-roll.
Is there really anything so wrong with having an event that's a little more aspirational than what you'll generally find in the area? It's not like we're exactly spoiled for choice on this front.
What is so scary about a few budget bog rolls??? I think I mentioned many examples of idea's of an aspirational nature the stall 4 all idea for example, A good mix of stalls would encourage a wide mix of locals, something to suit EVERYBODY. I cannot understand how this would spoil the ambiance only improve it.
And I would prefer to buy budget toilet rolls should I need to from a stall giving a local person an income rather than funding Poundlands fur lined pockets further.
We managed to get along yesterday, and I thought it was great. Not sure if we missed the fish man, but I don't think he was there when we were. Had a very nice burger/Katsu between us, and picked up some eggs and veg.
Very promising start from the looks of things, lot of kids enjoying themselves in the playground whilst their parents were busy looking at the stalls/stuffing their faces, so well done to the organisers for making this happen. Keep up the good work.
