Harringay resident Daniel Shea was awarded the silver medal at the Royal Horticultural Society’s Hampton Court Flower Show in the conceptual garden category.
His garden, entitled Uprising, was inspired by last year’s riots and looked at the relationship between the city and nature, and how planting could help the capital move forward.
The garden features an urban landscape with large towers and zig-zag path with meadow planting to show how the city environment can be calmed by letting nature back in.
Part of the winning garden will be relocated to a school in London affected by the riots which has yet to be decided.
As a result of his show garden Mr Shea, who recently graduated from Capel Manor Garden Design College in Regents Park, has set up his own garden design business.

Love the look of the garden, Daniel. A richly deserved win.
How brilliant, big congratulations. Our primary school wasn't close enough to be affected but still darned close. We have a truly pathetic garden that should you ever need a (probably unpaid) project to turn around and make into a lovely wild life garden...call us!! We have lots of willing little helpers but no creative drive or talent...
Deborah.
That sounds like a great community project. Perhaps next week's Tuesday Ketchup can include an invitation for ideas or even volunteers with spades & forks?
I notice a lot of posts about about wildlife gardening etc here, so it might be worth a stab. Nothing to lose as they say.
Which is your school, Deborah? Jason's idea sounds like a good one. If you think your school would be interested, I wonder if the first step might be for you to add a post, setting out what you'd like to do and ideally what you need to do it.
Wonder if Daniel was inspired with his blocks by the 70s children's TV series Escape Into Night; the very scary evil rocks that moved ever so slowly towards their prey .... !
Don't remember the series, but the ATV jingle is hugely evocative.
I missed Hampton Court this year, but love this garden. This is just the sort of planting we need all over London. Thank you, Daniel.
Thankyou all for your kind comments
