Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Not sure if there is/isnt... I just want to gage what qualities people like about the Councillors we have. (Alan you cant vote yea Ha ha x)

I like Cllr Ejifior and Cllr Dugan for their personas, everytime I have seen them they have been human and take time to say hello, we've never had any meaningful conversations but if I saw them I feel I could. I know this isnt why people voted for them, but I do think there is something important about politicians that dont act like they are superior

I love Cllr Diakies, a very knowledgable man and taught me a lot when I was growing up about different political schools of thought etc.

I think the work Cllr Peacock does in the community is commendable and she is not afraid of the residents.

I like Cllr Stanton, just because I see him on a lot of sites (including HoL) and there is something different on how he says what he thinks rather than a party line or hiding behind a members services admin to construct his responses.

I like Cllr Canver, when she was doing the crime lead... omg she was on it, especially profiling domestic violence but shes gone a bit quiet now

Thats it though... in reality, all of the above and people I havent rated are not fulfilling my expectations 100% of what I want in a Cllr, maybe my expectations are wrong or their communication with what they do is weak or there are internal issues that prevent them from taking limelight away from Kober. It would be great to hear what other people think

Don't worry about Clive's or my hang ups or our insecurities, Seema. Relax - you're safe in the arms of Auntie Liz. Spelling is neither here nor there, but giving our elected reps the courtesy of their names is a good idea and the simplest thing in the world to check when one is launching a new discussion, however inconsequential. In replying to someone else's discussion while on the hoof we may all make slip ups, hang ups or not. I think I, and Clive too, would be more interested in finding why someone launching an across-the-board discussion of our 57 elected councillors' qualities isn't a little more balanced and informed. And yes, our Dear Leader deserves one of her titles, Councillor or Council Leader, when everyone else you mention has been given theirs - whatever your hang ups or run ins with Ms Kober.

*makes OAE a cuppa* ... so back to the question ... who are your "Councillors of the year" (see how I spelt Councillor? Just, I believe you spelt it wrong in the post above )

Cant wait for your response on who shall get your vote and the reasons why...

I think he'd prefer a Jameson and an ironed copy of the Irish Times (says his Auntie Liz  )

Thanks Auntie Liz. You know the way to a man's heart, or even his vote.

'Counsellor Chandwani' - I think it was obvious to most that I was recognising (albeit with a teeny little whimsy of irony) your apparition on the scene as Counsellor to Councillors, electors, officers and anyone else who might care to lend an idle ear or eye. I shall endeavour to accept your counsel and even rise to your elegance of expression. Yes, we should all learn to give a shit, even over spelling. In fact I give two shits.

As to my "Councillors of the Year", I see no reason why I shouldn't be a little parochial in my A-ward. My vote (as in May 2010) goes to Cllrs Alexander and Schmitz. But, as a lifelong Labour voter prior to May 2006, come May 2014 my third vote might very well wing its way in the direction of Councillor in pectore Mulready if she stands again. The common criterion for all three would be "stickability over time".

You pressed me for my vote. There is only one vote that matters. If you  were to offer yourself to the electorate in one of our 19 wards for the May 2014 contest, it is theoretically possible that someone or other might entrust you with their vote. The question of stickability might arise - or is this sudden rush or rash of political X-factoring no more than a passing fancy?  Such brief enthusiasms have been known to spring up unbidden in the pages of HOL ere now, only to vanish into the ether by, say, page 11. We'll watch with bated breath.

I'm an insecure person, and your amusement makes me feel even more insecure.

John the charge earlier in this thread is that there is immaturity on this site. From one insecure person to another, I wonder if you can bring yourself to comment on the notion that a councillor is not afraid of the residents.

Do you think that this means that an averagely courageous councillor has no reason to fear residents because they are so supine and spineless or that, despite active resident rage, a councillor is utterly fearless?

Don't try to answer if you don't feel confident enough. That's OK.

There's a difference between immaturity and insecurity. I'm much more mature than I would like: that contributes to my insecurity.
