Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I've been asked to repost the following

At 1pm today, Friday, 6th January, a particularly nasty burglary occurred in the basement flat at 188 Stapleton Hall Road.  The sash window in the front bedroom was forced open (it was secured with 2 3" screws through the frame and a conventional window lock), the bedroom and office ransacked and a laptop and game console stolen.  A large flatscreen TV had been lifted through the front window and was still in the bay in front of the flat.

The most awful thing is that the thieves also made off with the family's small dog, a beautiful golden pug called Molly.  2 black men were spotted by a neighbour in the opposite house who alerted the police and watched them walk down SHR towards Oakfield carrying what he thought was a cat.  The owners are absolutely devastated.

If anyone saw anything unusual in the vicinity, please either contact the local police, reply to this email or call/txt me on 07507 138 582.  Would you please also circulate this on any community website to which you have access.  Posters of Molly are being put around the area.

Thank you.

How awful! My heart goes out to them. Here's hoping she will be found.

Could they have mistaken it for a baby pitbull?

Could be John, I hadn't thought of that.

It does not seem like an opportunist crime, as it took some determination: I understand a crow bar was left behind at the scene. There has been speculation that the object of the burglary may have been the animal. It seems opportunist only in that both the pet and electronic gear was taken; one might suppose that burglars were prepared to deal with one or the other, but not both (?)

Pug puppies can sell for £1000.

And I imagine a second hand dog retains its resale value more than a playstation does.

Fingers crossed they get her back soon. Was she microchipped?

Bloody 'ell. I take it they weren't alarmed. Burglary is up by nearly 9% on average for London year to October 2011. MPA crime stats. Taking the family pet is really sick. Now if it had been a doberman ... justice might have been served swiftly.

Yes, I can confirm the dog is returned to its home.

I understand that a woman out walking her own dog in Enfield found the pug just wandering around in a park. Presumably, the thieves became aware from all the publicity (BBC, ITV & Twitter) that Molly was by now, a pretty hot dog. The dog walker got in touch with a vet and ownership was rapidly re established.

My advice that the dog be chipped is now part of a queue of people's advice of the same.

so pleased the dog is back.  Brilliant.   Annette
