Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

The Council is obliged to submit a "Preliminary Flood Risk" assessment by the 22nd June, and we, as Councillors have been asked to highlight any local problems that we may be aware of with regard to drainage problems that occur through heavy rainfall.
I have already reported the perennial problem which is Green Lanes north of Frobisher Road. If anyone wants me to mention anything else, please add a posting here and I'll pass it on.
The information will need to be in by Friday the 17th. (Sorry about that, but we've had very little notice.)

Bottom of Warham Rd and Grand Parade by the traffic lights.
All around the out going lane of Williamson Road
Green Lanes between Endymion and Umfreville on either side of the road.

As I occasionally tell my Labour colleagues, sudden heavy rain is Mother Nature's way of showing local councils where drains are blocked - so they can go and clean them.
Though sometimes what's disclosed are the places where the drainage system is unable to cope with a surge of stormwater. Which could potentially lead to temporary localised flooding. No matter how clean the drains, if they are full they can no longer carry water away at the required rate. And they can also deliver a surfeit of water further down the drainage system and flood another area.
This links to the issue about the steady cumulative loss of gardens and other green spaces to infill development and non-permeable hard surfaces. Our green areas 'hold back' rainwater. As they shrink in area, the risk increases that the flow and intensity of water will overwhelm the system.
I'm glad that in London flash flooding seems relatively rare. But I suspect this makes us complacent.

A very widespread misconception:
that there's an 'outside' into which we can put waste without any harmful consequences to ourselves 'inside'.
Veolia - and Haringey Environment Department - need to tackle this. And not just with street cleaners!

"This it is absolutely not the instruction given to our employees."
Jean-Francois added that the local managers will be speaking to their teams about this.

There is a constant problem along Wightman Road as you walk up towards Alroy Road. There is a leak - from the Jewsons site - that often floods the pavement and the road.

Drains from Turnpike Lane tube near the bus station/West Green Common as you go south towards Manor House used to be a big issue in heavy rain.

In Seven Sisters, corner of Wakefield Road and Rangemoor Road, by the traffic island. It has been worked on but still floods.

If I am not too late - Hampden Road - the bit between Wightman Road and Hornsey station - gets terribly flooded by the bridge. We have got soaked a few times on our way to school/station when lorries and cars head to the rail depot and the other businesses there and send water flying in all directions
