Tottenham to stay at White Hart Lane after leaving stock market

Tottenham intend to press ahead with plans to build a new stadium next to White Hart Lane after quitting the stock market today to raise funds.

Spurs have abandoned their attempts to move to the Olympic Stadium in Stratford after the 2012 Games and are now pushing ahead with the Northumberland Development Project.

They see sense at last

I disagree that they've seen sense and that it is good for Tottenham.

Its a pity that they are staying in TTHM and continuing to occupy a vast expanse of real estate that could be redeveloped and put t better use than the occasional football match that brings in fans that only buy  a lot of kebabs, fast food, etc, on match days. Can you imagine if the area had revamped transport and a good mixed use development on it jsut how much more footfall and business park opportunities there  could be in Tottenham.

People seem to be so desperate to regenerate the area that they are missing the essential and settling for crumbs. To think that a stock exchange company has been offered public subsidy (my tax contributions -I do pay taxes) ...sorry to be 'off message'

JJ B.. THFC Has been in LBHGY 100 YRS ++   -

I think they have earned the right to be there..

I don't understand about 'earning the right'. I know that they form an integral part of Tottenham's history. But they are a multi millon pound business operating in an area that needs investment.

1)they were not really worried about the place when they sought to go to Stratford.

The people in charge of the place seem so desperate and bereft of vision that they are cow towing to the blackmail.

Let them leave and redevelp the site. We' could be better off for it.

Tottenham needs people and businesses who are willing to invest in the place and its people. They don't seem to be in that category. Are they here by default because things went wrong with their plans to occupy the Olympic stadium?

Try Googling or YouTubing 'Tottenham' - what do you find?

and BTW

Who are 'we' ?

I think you're right to questions the motives and commitment to the area after recent efforts by the club to upsticks and move to the Olympic stadium... Clearly their heart and soul wasn't in tottenham, it was looking to increase it's fan base and revenue streams.

That said, worth remembering that the club do invest a lot of time, money and effort into the local community and have done for many many years. I'm referring to their extensive outreach programmes and work with youngsters in the area, promoting positive activity and opportunity. I'd like to hope that if they do stay in the area that will continue and that the local area will continue to benefit from that.

They do have a lot of work to do to rebuild community relations after the clear messages in recent times that they were ready to depart....
The plans for the development look good, with some good public spaces and plenty of new Job opportunities and investment in surrounding infrastructure.

Be interesting to see what the next steps are and how this news is received in tottenham

I'm also peeved that some great vernacular buildings tha made the High Street have been sacrificed for the redevelopment of their stadium.

We're stuck with them. Yes, lets hope that they rebuild their community relations as yo said Paul.

I won't comment again in this thread again.
