Hi David

Whoever you decide to go with, can I recommend (just in case you were not aware of this) that you ensure that they are FENSA registered as you will require a FENSA certificate when you come to sell further down the line.  Many people fail to realise this and it causes big problems.  A buyers solicitor will always ask for this certificate at some point during the sales process and it can be really costly to rectify etc... well you get the picture! 

This link may help Also, best advice is to perhaps consider part double glazing (rear) and keeping the front original looking, if finances allow! Best of luck with it.

We knew about FENSA, but didn't know to ask for a certificate.

 

Unfortunately the front doesn't look original now (well I suppose it looks original 1970s!) which is partly why we're doing this - that along with the gaps in the windows.

I am also looking to replace a few windows and have a few contacts who I believe are FENSA registered so will get back to you if I find out anything.

Is there a way to refurb them instead of replace? It's cheaper than putting in new and retains the value of your property. I live in a conservation area so had to refurb -- though I ended up replacing one that was beyond repair with a new wooden sash window. The whole thing was much cheaper than installing UPVC. It's also much more environmentally friendly.
