Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
Fairfax Road
Hi
We're really keen on moving to the Ladder. What are the pros and cons of being on Fairfax? Is it not as nice as the roads closer to Finsbury (Burgoyne etc) or is it simply that you are nearer zone 3 than 2?

Fairfax Road is flat, has a primary school (which also has a toddler group, playgroup and nursery) just around the corner, is a few minutes walk from tube & bus stations, plus there is a great park at the top of the road!

Fairfax Road is quieter, flatter than south of the ladder, has a lovely park at the end of the road and a great convenience store at the other end. Above all, the neighbours are very friendly!! Goodluck with finding a new home.

We have lived on Fairfax Rd for 18 years and all our immediate neighbours for longer than that so obviously we love living here.We've happily brought up three kids here. Fairfax Rd is convenient for Turnpike Lane tube, Green Lanes shops and Wood Green shopping city and its only a short walk over to Crouch End. We feel its a nice mixed community. I'm not an estate agent honest.

Hello. I lived on Fairfax Road nearly three years ago, for about a year and I have to warn you that we had a really bad problem with cockroaches and mice! I know it is a bit of a problem on the ladder but thought it was worth saying, as I had no idea about it before I moved.
Apart from that it is (at least when I was there) a nice quiet road, handily near Hornsey station and Turnpike Lane for getting into Town, with a grocer very conveniently at the bottom of the road and a nice park (now much nicer than when I was living there). And unlike some of the roads further up, it's not on a massive hill.
EDIT: and yes, the neighbours are nice and kids play in the road :)

We're on the next road up, and I agree with most of these comments. It seems a bit quieter at this end of the ladder, but the proximity to the tube is really useful. Each road on the ladder seems to have its own pros and cons, but we've been here four years and love it.

I live on Fairfax and I can't hear the noise from NHPS at all. The only kids noise is excited chatter on the way up to Fairland park at the end of the road. It's near the tube and Hornsey station so really well connected and you are really near Wood Green shops without actually being in the centre of them.
Everyone I have met on the road is very friendly. Even our neighbours who play music way too loud are polite when you ask them to turn it down. So I rate living here very highly.
Downsides - there are some idiot drivers who race down all the ladder roads late at night and this is annoying. Someone drove into the side of my car a few weeks ago, writing off the back door. but that's about it for us. And this seems to happen everywhere in the Ladder, so don't think Fairfax is a special case.
