we could put in a bid to the Quality of Life strand to fund HOL,if you need cash for expenses? I'd be happy to work on the bid if Hugh and Liz think so?
Hi T. Thanks for the thought. I'd be really interested in a bid for a collective of neighbourhood websites in Haringey. The benefit from my perspective would be to address the issue of the longer-term sustainabilty of local sites on a more regional basis. Perhaps a bid could even be structured to focus more on supporting new sites in early growth stages but majoring on helping them find more sustainable sources of funding for the longer-term.
Currently there are four in Haringey and I know there are a few folk in Bruce Grove who want to set one up. I'm sure Richard at B&B would be interested. I imagine Adrian at the Opinion site would be as could possibly Andy at stroudgreen.org. I'm almost certain the Bruce Grove folk would be. HFRA may even be willing for the bid to go in in their name if this idea makes sense. That would mean that a bigger pot of money could be sought.
I know that takes it miles way from your initial kind offer to help out your local site and you may just think "well, bugger that" which I'd completely understand. So feel free to be frank with your response T.
Hello
Omotn here aka Adrian from OpinioN8. I share Hugh's ambition for a collective bid for start ups.
However I have some doubts abotu the match between Team London's criteria and OpinioN8's current goals.
The purpose of OpinioN8 is to form a collective voice which should address the survey finding that 6 out of 10 people feel their area has no sense of community. However if completing the expression of interest page for OpinioN8, either I tick all the groups under "Which of the following groups do you work with? (Tick all that apply)" because members might belong to any, or I tick none of them because we are not so focussed. I know that HoL has a Neighbourhoods Affiliation and perhaps other initiatives which match much more closely the Team London criteria.
If the four sites Hugh lists were to combine it surely would be relatively easy to create a constitution for a registered charity to step up to the higher level of funding.
Hi Hugh and thanks Liz - As Bowes and Bounds nears the end of our first year (September) I think our status as "an experiment" now shifts into seeking sustainability ... so I am very keen to partner with others both to connect with a bigger critical mass of local sites and to share a little of what has been learned to encourage others to set up similar ventures.
Bowes and Bounds Connected still exists as a non constituted organisation - but that will hopefully change over the summer as we seek to establish ourseves into a non-profit organisation that can seek funding and operate a bank account as an unincorporated association.
I'm very keen to explore a joint / group bid.
OK, thanks guys. As I've said. I've registered an interest so we'll get the application forms.
It sounds like we'd need to do some thinking on the best way tyo make a bid. Perhaps understandably, Dave Morris has said that he'd be supportive but doesn't feel it appropriat eto front a bid. I'd have thought we can find a way round it.
Hello all. Have done a couple of spec bids for sgr in the past and not really got anywhere with them. Am totally snowed under at the moment, so could lend support but not much else. Happy to combine on a project basis to see where we get. What are we asking for, though? I have no particular need to raise funds against sgr, so would be more keen on something interesting/useful/new.
Also, did anything happen with that car hire thing?
I've put a personal register of interest in on behalf of the Warham Gardening collective to see if we can get some money for flower boxes in Seymour (as they've expressed the most interest so far in street gardening) but I'm not sure about HOL. Maybe drop a note to Hugh?
I doubt whether the HFRA would front such a bid as we need to stick fairly closely to our core activities.
However we may well add our name to support it if it is promoting the continuing development of a web of localised e-networking around Haringey linked to local grass-roots community groups and promoting community spirit and initiatives... (like HoL and B&B etc)..
best wishes
Dave Morris
