Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Maybe I'm just paranoid, but the number of > 7.5 T vehicles using Wightman Road seems to be increasing.

Donovan EU07EYA skip lorry turned onto Wightman from Endymion at 15.47 today and  crossed the Alroy bridge.

Lynch HGV MX55AVV drove the length of Wightman at 15.48 without stopping to pick up or set down.

I've seen one or two London Concrete lorries on Wightman over the last few days.

Time for another campaign ?

No John, that the people caught breaking the regs are not charged enough to cover the costs of enforcement....

I have yet to get the registration number of the HUGE red Warburton's lorry that humps down Wightman around 7:05 every morning... anyone else get it? I am happy to call them up.

Now the London Concrete guys PROMISED Andy (SNT) that they would not be using Wightman... They have a HUGE incentive to do so. Getting into the city where they need all this concrete for their huge new towers they can either battle through Crouch End or they can do Wightman, Tollington etc.

Is Andy going to go back to them with a big stick and kick some ass?

Thanks for this Jono and Glyn.

I don't see the problem with 7.5T signage: Wightman Road and the Alroy bridge are already clearly signposted.

As far as speed goes, all we need to do is watch the 20 mph SID ( Speed indicating device ) on the southbound stretch of Wightman Road opposite the mosque. Speeds are to some extent governed by traffic density but I did a count over about 15 mins one afternoon and approximately two out of three south-bound vehicles triggered the flashing "20 " and some were still accelerating as they passed it. I'll do a bit of video after the holidays.

I personally have only seen London Concrete vehicles on occasion and that only from my third-floor window so no reg numbers as yet.

Again, thanks for taking an interest Jono / Glyn

They only go to court if you issue you them with a ticket. What is so wrong with flashing your badge and saying "don't do it again, sunshine"? There is a distinct lack of Police intimidation about all of this.

You can say it's the council's responsibility until you're blue in the face, the council have NO interest in enforcing these limits and we rely on you. All this red tape and "who's responsibility is it anyway" is beside the point. A law is being broken and we actually care about it because it makes our lives a bit shit really. Come and sit in my front room for an hour, even the back room... the double glazing just isn't cutting it.

I notice that a family on one of the Ladder roads who posted on here shortly after buying their house about the cut through traffic, HGVs and road humps, have put their house out to let. What other reasons do people RENT OUT THEIR HOUSES AND MOVE AWAY FOR?

I'm serious about the London Concrete bastards, if Andy wants to come over with me and just say "nothing happened" I am happy to go apocalyptic on a bit of their office furniture. I completely understand that you are used to being lied to (I told a Policeman I was born in 1971 once) but here it is in your face. THEY LIED TO YOU.

I'm happy to deal with liveried vehicles myself and I do. Warburton's man is next on my list but I think London Concrete are going to be a real problem and it's best to nip it in the bud. As I said, I'm happy to knock off work and come and help Andy lay waste to their office.

Let me know if there's someone (other than the council) I can write to about this.

Much respect, as always.

OK Jono. I take your point that the positioning of the signage could be improved. And I understand  of course that Jewson's vehicles are entitled to use Wightman which is signed

" 7.5 T except for access" - that's fine, as are the huge low-loaders delivering to Hornsey Railway yard.

My particular bete noir is the skip lorry which uses Wightman and Fairfax as a short cut to West Green Road and delights in hitting the speed bump at speed so the chains rattle and the skip bounces.

Anyway, I'm sure John McM, I and others will continue to harass the Council and the Transport managers.

I have been working from home a bit recently and have been slowly descending into insanity due to the amount of heavy vehicles using Cavendish Road.  Jewsons are a regular offender, council (or contracted) car removal vehicles another, plus any number of others. Once I get a new charger for the camera will do a time lapse video to prove I'm not imagining it.

Incidentally, are Jewsons allowed to use Cavendish or any other "for access?".
They're not supposed to go back over the bridge so I think they do count as access.
@ Fippo, try e*ay for a new camera charger, they can usually be had for a few ££, similarly replacement batteries.
Are they going in a particular direction?
If they're heading south then I think they're coming down the B155 and just avoiding traffic lights before they get to Colina Rd and Green Lanes.
Langham Rd is very quiet so you can make the right hand turn no problem and there are traffic lights at Belmont Rd/West Green Rd to avoid. Don't forget that if the skip truck drivers can make an extra journey they'll get paid a bonus.
Why don't the council / police put up cameras? Surely there is a fortune to be had.  I would normally describe our council as unable to organise a p.ss up in a pub but on the parking front they must be making a fortune as they seem to have this very organised.
