Maybe I'm just paranoid, but the number of > 7.5 T vehicles using Wightman Road seems to be increasing.
Donovan EU07EYA skip lorry turned onto Wightman from Endymion at 15.47 today and crossed the Alroy bridge.
Lynch HGV MX55AVV drove the length of Wightman at 15.48 without stopping to pick up or set down.
I've seen one or two London Concrete lorries on Wightman over the last few days.
Time for another campaign ?
You are right. There have been motorway maintenance dumper lorries and skip wagons exactly as you describe, amongst others. If anyone is around next week and feels like joining in on a 'lorry watch' at the bridge - registration numbers and film to give to Jono - get in touch. Apparently the Borough are reluctant to enforce the bridge weight limit because the signage is poor. And there are no 7.5 T restriction signs anywhere in Haringey and no money to buy any!
We have had this conversation on here before but it's an ongoing problem and I think it merits an ongoing conversation.
It's all part and parcel of my frustration at the way scofflaws are ignored. If you are in the habit of ignoring laws that you find inconvenient, how far up the scale do you go ? If the accepted culture says that it's ok to ignore speed / weight restrictions and the ban on handheld cellphones, is it then OK to litter, flytip, hassle women, shoplift, rob, assault, rape and murder ?
There used to be two types of road signs - mandatory and warning. We've now added a third - meaningless.

I`ve spoken to the managers of both companies of the two vehicles you saw.
They are going to have words with the two drivers and other drivers that they employ.

Given the sheer number of laws/rules/restrictions now in place, it would be a suicidal policy to try to enforce all of them. Not only would it take huge manpower, but also result in a country that I suspect few of us would want to live in.
Governments and laws only work with the broad consent of the populace, and where they reflect or reinforce social norms. Unfortunately someone has forgotten to tell the politicians this, with the result that every problem, no matter how trivial, is met with yet more legislation.
The inevitable result is a decline in respect for and observation of the law.
This doesn't mean that the 7.5 tonne weight limit is wrong - but it does mean that expecting a legal solution to the problem of trucks is misguided.
I guess part of the problem is that the true costs of enforcement are not passed on to those caught breaking the rules.
If the council/ polis could recharge back the costs of enforcement, people could be employed to enforce the relevant regs and possibly offer sufficient incentive to those breaking the law etc...
Laws and regulations are often enacted with no clear plan for how the objectives are to be met!
Are you suggesting that I pay insufficient council tax? I agree with you, we could pay a bit more.
On the other hand the council could give the power for enforcement of this limit to the Police (who I understand have asked for it) but they have an interest in the 7.5t limits not being enforced:
