I picked up some Twitter stirrings last night of something having happened around the passageway by Sydney Road. Having asked a few questiopsn of local Tweeters, I'm very sad to report that there appears to have been a serious sexual assault in the Passage between Sydney Road and Turnpike Lane during the early hours of Sunday morning. I'm told that the police are appealing to anyone who might have seen/heard anything to contact them.
Sad, sad news.

but a few days later there is no signage or notices or anything about this latest attack as far as I can tell...
why are the residents not informed of this sort of thing but left to twitter-watchers to uncover instead?
that in itself is scary - and leaves more people unknowing and more likely to carry on walking around the passage in the strange twilight hours.
?
The more people that walk around the passage in the strange twilight hours the safer it becomes. The less people that walk around the passage in the strange twilight hours the more dangerous it becomes.
ill do and say what i like if i feel raping woman and stealing from houses is unacceptable, i meant isnt it a shame that we have to post in the first place
Why is someone's outrage a rape cause for patronising responses?
The fact that there have been 4 rapes in the area in the last 6 months is the most important issue not the promotion/defence of a dog fouled cut through
After the rapes last year, I began the process of opening a dialogue with local police and the Borough Commander about the issue of women's safety, particularly as women were complaining of harassment, mainly on the main roads, not in the Passage. I was helped in this by people from David Lammy's office. However, I found that when it came to it, few people were willing to go further than be angry online and join me in setting up a public meeting. With the arrest and conviction of two of the three rapists, it all seemed to go on the back burner.
I can begin that conversation again and try to get the issue back on the agenda with the police, if enough people wish it, but I will need more backing than I got last time.
The problem identified back then was not the use of the Passage or any other location (the previous rapes took place in Ladder roads and by the Railway station) but the vulnerability of women to attack in the early hours of the morning. This remains for me the key issue and probably not one that is specific to this area.
It's all part of living in the vibrant, multicultural community that we like so much.
Liz - I'm happy to help push the issue. There's also a women's march planned in central London on March 5th, to protest against general issues of violence against women and children. See www.millionwomenrise.com for info.
John D, I hope you're not serious. Violence against women does not happen because Harringay is "multicultural". And we do not have to put up with it.
