Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

This is not really very important but I just wondered - does anyone else get a phenomenal number of Jehovah's Witnesses to their door on the Ladder? I have no gripe with JW but yesterday I had six people call at my door and the day before I had four. On average, I have about 12 JW callers a week (and sometimes other evangelical visitors too) knocking on my door.

I keep asking these JW - very politely - to tell their churches not to call on me as I'm not interested. I have to answer the door as I'm waiting for stuff to be delivered for work but I find it a bit annoying and scary when strangers call all the time (especially after reading all the stuff on here about scams with people coming to your door). Sometimes when I'm on the phone for work, they keep knocking until I go to the door thinking it's an emergency.

Anyway, just wondered if everyone on the Ladder comes across the same issue? Has anyone had any success getting evangelical converters to stop calling?

We had 5 of them in one day, I found it scary as I have been burgled twice and another unsuccessful scam lady tried to come in. So yeah pretty annoying
That explains a few weird posts lately :-)

Harringayonline's crime, in the eyes of StoningBot, is not altogether clear.

My father's advice to me when I was a boy was to say in a cold, expressionless voice: "I'm not interested". I think swearing would be unkind. Some folk say "the Rabbi told us not to speak to you" which could work or, "I'm an atheist", which some visitors will take as a challenge, but simply repeating (if necessary) "I'm not interested", without elaboration, is probably safest and most effective (unless you are interested of course).

NB Stoned to Death – those heavily habituated to cannabis may not fear Stoningbot's punishment as much as s/he seems to think. Those trying to lose weight by Imperial measurements will not welcome the punishment.

How about sticking a notice on the door "No junk mail, no hawkers, no evangelists"
Tell the Jehovah witness that they were expected at your door, at this exact time on earth today with an expression of unbridled joy, then ask '' how much is the pizza (with bacon) ? ''

Many years ago I lived in a hamlet in a far-flung corner of Wiltshire. We thought we were too far from anywhere for the JWs to find us but no, one day two very scrubbed and crewcutted young white Mercans came visiting. Our house was polite-but-firm, but our neighbour Terry the Cowman did better. He said that he was busy and could they return later. They hid their surprise and made an appointment.

Terry had prepared for their arrival, had lit all his black candles, got the upside-down cross in place, had the two cockerels - one black, one white - to hand. He didn't put his robes on till they were actually in the room.

We did not see them, or their like, again.

Some confusion here ?

Clean-cut Americans are  usually Mormons, whereas Jehovah's Witnesses are generally indigenous.

Not that it matters :-)

Aren't the JW just the British branch of the same company church then?

No

What a shame, I expected a response that didn't begin with 'n' as in 'negative' ..

OK. Jehovah's Witnesses believe the Bible is to be taken as literally true - and consequently will not accept blod transfusions: Mormons believe in most of the Bible, supplemented by the Book of Mormon. As far as I'm aware, they have no problem with blood products.

PS " Diese Seite existiert nicht "

OK,  thanks for that - I never knew

Doch! obwohl Det wäre vielleicht besser!
