Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

View Across to the City

I organised an "unconference" for Londoners running local websites, which ran yesterday down on the riverbank.

Amongst the guests were some locals including the charming Andy from stroudgreen.org and some folk from Finsbury Park.

We also had The Guardian and The Londonist along.

At one of the sessions, the Londonist showcased some stuff they've been doing on hand-drawn maps of London.

Londonist's handdrawn maps

In one of the follow-up posts to the day Matt at the Londonist has laid down the gauntlet:

At LNO10, there was some interest in our hand-drawn maps series. Basically, we've asked readers to draw their local neighbourhood (or a wider area), being as inventive, subjective, or humourous as they like. The results are archived here: londonist.com/tags/handdrawncartography We'd love to post more of these, so I wondered if anyone would be interested in putting a map together for their own area? You are the experts, after all! You don't need good drawing skills, it's the insightful content of the map rather than the style that's important. If you don't fancy having a go yourself, maybe you could issue it as a challenge for your site users/readers. The best maps will be displayed at an exhibition at the Museum of London next year, and will be projected at an upcoming Big Draw event, as part of the Story of London.

Now, come on down Harringay artists, how about it?

Oh, and if you want to have a peek at what went went on yesterday, here are some photo sets:

When is the deadline? I'll put it out to my peeps.
This comes from the linked article:

"Send all entries to hello – at – londonist.com. There’s no real deadline, but the sooner you send something in, the sooner we’ll put it up on the site."
