Winter Service – Operational Plan 2010/2011
This is a bit of a lengthy post – please bear with me!
Everyone will remember the chaos the snow caused on the Ladder last year. The draft Winter Service plan came to the Overview & Scrutiny Committee on Monday prior to it going to the Cabinet in a couple of weeks time. I thought it may be useful highlight a couple of things that relate to the Ladder. Please bear in mind that this is a draft plan and does need to be approved by Cabinet before it can be considered definite.
Many of our steep roads were in Priority 2 last year which caused most of the problems we encountered. This year the following roads have been moved to Priority 1 which effectively means that the Winter Service Operation should be not to allow snow to lay on the carriageway surface. When snow is forecast the Contract Manager should aim to start the gritting programme just prior to the forecast time for the snow to begin.
Ladder roads that will now be in Priority 1 are:
Allison Road, N8
Beresford Road, N8
Burgoyne Road, N4
Cavendish Road, N4
Duckett Road, N4
Endymion Road, N4
Frobisher Road, N8
Green Lanes, N4 & N8
Hewitt Road, N8
Mattison Road, N4
Seymour Road, N8
Umfreville Road, N4
Wightman Road, N4 & N8
Lack of grit bins was also an issue - additional grit bins are proposed at the following locations:-
Beresford Road, N8
Allison Road, N8
Effingham Road, N8
Pemberton Road, N4
The new grit bins should be in place by early November.
I have queried the absence of bins for Warham and Hewitt Roads. Officers response was that moving these two roads to Priority 1 will address the problems of last year.
I noted from the plan that Alroy Road was Priority 3 and I have asked officers to make sure that it is moved to Priority 1 to provide continuity on Wightman Road.
There is still time for suggestions and requests for possible adjustments before it goes to Cabinet but as I said before this document is only in draft at the moment.
Cllr Karen Alexander
