This fellow spends much time hanging around the fish filled water right by the entrance to the New River tunnel. There is no suitable spot to stand or perch within a beak's reach of the fish so I am never likely to witness a catch. He is rarely spooked by passing pedestrians or their dogs and seems to have learned that they are safely on the other side of a stout fence.

I walked within touching distance of him last week - completely unfazed.
Recently re-visiting the new development in the Heartlands to show my brother, I lamented the missing fish in the crescent-shaped lakes. He suggested a heron, and I can only imagine that he's right. The lakes are constantly refreshed with new water from a source near the railway line, down metal chutes, under Mary Neuner Road, into the lakes and then (presumably) into the Moselle.
