Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

TWO Haringey Councillors were arrested and released in connection with a demonstration in support of the ‘Defend Our Juries’ campaign.

The Councillors' action stands in contrast with the earlier suppression of any discussion about Gaza in council, by the current Haringey Council leader (i.e. by Kier Starmer's local New Labour representative).

———

The Police action stands in contrast to the apparent absence of action in an unrelated matter involving Haringey Councillor(s) and/or a council employee. i.e. the fraud alleged in at least one property deal.

Over a 36-month period, Haringey Council lost at least £10,000,000 in irregular transactions. Plural.

In 2022, council leader Peray Ahmet belatedly but properly, agreed to an external investigation.

That led—a year later—to the [pre-redacted] Buss Report.

More than one Councillor volunteered to be interviewed.

The Council Chief Executive confirmed that the "full" version of the Buss Report was sent to the Met Police.

However—more than a year ago—the Ham & High reported that the Police investigation was still "ongoing".

One has to wonder how the Police investigation is going. In contrast with their arrests of Haringey Councillors at the top, there is no news of any charge or arrest relating to any Haringey Council property deal.

From the newspropaganda I see, the population in Gaza is up 4.3% since October 7th. I see your straw man, and raise you "The world population review". To call it a Genocide shows how badly taken in you have been by the left wing propaganda you consume.

My point continues to be, why on earth are we debating this on HoL when Tottenham is such a mess? Even worse than it was in the 2011 riots.

You raise me, do you? John. So it's a card game we're playing is it? How sad. Are the lives of babies and small children - Israeli or Palestinian;  - the stakes in a game? Is that where your head and your heart are now?

And do you really not understand why Forensic Architecture offers the gift of some hope about different and fruitful ways of asking and answering at least a few of the important questions?

A precious and truthful old song about another gift came to mind. I've borrowed and altered its words.

Tis a gift tho not simple. Tis the gift to be free.
To think different thoughts and share them you and me.
Till by sharing comparing some truth is gained
To listen to one another we shan't be ashamed.

That's private website that auto updates projections based on models, not on census data. It does not track real-time conflict deaths, displacement, or emigration. Do you really believe the population in Gaza has increased by 4.3% since October 7th? Are people who claim otherwise indoctrinated by propaganda?

Thanks, Mark Williams for looking up the website John McMullan called as witness to support his view. Maybe he will accept at least thr possibility you may be right? Or explain - as some people did to John Snow how they liked the taste of water from the Broad Street pump in Soho?
As you saw, I was trying to reach out in a different way to a different John I once thought I knew a little. Or maybe just to reach different HoL members who like me find tears coming more easily these days.

The song as I assume you know. is "Simple Gifts". I looked for the music and found more verses. Each line just as relevant. (Search \youtube for @MurielAndersen.com  Simple Gifts verses you may not know.

If they're Jews they would slaughter them.

Starmer shamimg our country to appease the leftwing of his party proves that politics is indeed farce..

Crass.

I watched a terrible video last night. It was of a pickup truck being driven by Hamas "soldiers" through the streets of Palestine. In the back of this pickup truck were 4 men holding AK47's, with a near naked person (A woman) with obviously broken bones and who appeared to be dead, under the legs of the armed men, with one of them holding this person by the hair. The pickup was surrounded by Palestinians who were attacking and spitting on the corpse and dancing in delight.

If you so wish, try to imagine this horror.

The whole purpose of the existance of Hamas is to wipe out the state of Israel.

They started this existential war.

Now they are repeaing what they sowed.

Yes the attack was horrible, no question. I have since watched women cradling dead babies, children with limbs blown off in shock with their relatives dead under a block of flats. This gets us nowhere. Neither does 'who started it', how far do you want to go back in history? The Nakba or before?

There is an ongoing genocide. Retired General Herzi Halevi  who led the IDF for the first 17 months agreed with Hamas calculations that 200,000 Palestinians have been killed or injured. The babies and children of Gaza, the women of Gaza who are the majority living there, did not sow anything. They are being slaughtered now and all you can talk about is vengeance and justifying further butchery.

Maggie, thanks for that heartfelt response. But I also partly disagree. Because I don't "read" David Cornwell as closed-minded. The video as he describes it spounds appalling. Which is why I tried to choose the words of my reply with extra care.

South Africa and Northern Ireland have shown alternative routes. Difficult but possible paths which once seemed improbable.

I mentioned my own late mother's warm response to a visit to our home of a German friend I met in Israel. The East End streets where she grew up had been bombed in the war. And where we lived until I was about ten, maybe half the factories at the end of our road had been targeted by German bombers or V2 rockets.

Maggie, plainly you are right to consider the context of the Nakba. (For HoL members who don't  know this Arabic word - meaning catastrophe - it refers to the massacres and expulsion of some 750,000 Palestinians in 1948.)

Hi Alan , it was the phrase "They are reaping what they sowed" in Davids response, it shocked me and I felt it was extremely callous, hence my last sentence. However I am all for finding alternative routes.

There were a number of videos and countless independent journalist's reports which I haven't watched over the past years. I assume many of them might have been sickening and involved killings and the desecration of the corpses of innocent victims.

I might have, but didn't.

Why? Mainly for the reason that when people were desperately trying to escape from the Hamas vile attack, shooting videos and taking photos was not their highest priority. And largely because afterwards Israel were able to prevent most international journalists from entering Gaza. (As I recall a few from Al Jazeera did get in and they were killed in a tent by the Israelis.)

The question for me is how the outside world can attempt to help more of the Israeli and Palestinian people to treat each other as human beings. How to unlock the doors of hatred and stop eating a poisonous diet of warmed-over anger and more hate. Pehaps to begin paying attention to healing the wounds.

And more positively, to explore further the rich creative human possibilties of different peoples with different histories, races, religions, languages, foods, musics, etc etc etc, living side by side.

An impossible goal? Of course not! We live in London, don't we? So we know both the successes and difficulties.
