Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Can anyone else feel/hear deep bass that seems to be coming from Finsbury Park?

Wireless is tomorrow but we already seem to have gut-shaking bass that's lasted about 30 minutes already.

Yes I heard the noise.

I phoned the Festival Republic to complain and was told that they didn’t know how long the noise would be going on for, I had to point out that some people might be wanting to go to bed soon.  I also pointed out that there had been no sound checks during the day, I couldn’t get an explanation as to why they had decided to leave the checks till 9.15pm.
I quoted from the Festival Republic residents information leaflet which states “Sound checks and rehearsals will take place the day before, and the morning of each event.  The time of sound checks and rehearsals are agreed in advance with Haringey Council.”  I asked if the Council had agreed to the timing of this evenings sound check and I was told that they had!!!!!!
So I have now emailed my local councillors to ask them to query why the Council agreed to sound checks at this time.

Konrad, does this not show that little weight can be placed on verbal assurances by Festival Republic?

Or verbal claims by the council. Or written statements by the council concerning their customer's interests, for which any obstacles will be cleared. Haringey council's major events policy has been corrosive to council honesty and integrity.

Are the council's client's phone lines not merely a worthless sop and lightning rod?

The noise rather ruined my evening. I've not been well and I need to rest and being shaken around in your living room as your trying to nod off isn't very restfull.

I didn't even get a leaflet so I couldn't make a noise complaint. Can you share the number, please?

I don't know the number, but email address is FinsburyPark.residents@festivalrepublic.com.

It's worth coping in the Friends of Finsbury Park and your local councillor so they are aware of the scale of the problem, thefriendsoffinsburypark@gmail.com

020 8080 1459

The residents information leaflet states that this number is operational on live show days from 8am till 2am the following morning and from 8am till 8pm when they are taking down.

I heard it too and thought this is wrong, shouldn't be doing this now. As ever, the concerns, feelings and everyday lives of local residents are simply pushed to one side. Words, empty words, from festival organisers and council.

It's anti-social behaviour and actionable from anyone else, but Live Nation seem to get a free pass.

The council seems stuck sycofantically and grubbily sucking up to nasty domineering company at the expense of residents.

The noise is which is bad enough is the tip of the iceberg.
Haringey Council is quite happy - even boasts about inflicting this on our community and on our park.  If they put the same effort into providing good quality services so much could be achieved. As well as the anti social behaviour, taking the police from their proper jobs, damage to the park etc. I have concerns about Live Nation/Festival Republic’s safety record - just one example is what happened at the Astroworld in America. A number of avoidable deaths a google search provides the tragic details.

I totally agree!!! Fortunately I am away this weekend so won't have to endure the noise until Sunday but I really resent the way the park is spoilt for most of the Summer because of these concerts. I love music and wouldn't mind if it was an occasional gig but it's too often and at the detriment of those of us who love to be in the park in the summer months. Like many I don't have a garden so the park is somewhere I like to go to relax outside and read a book in the Summer. Those ugly barriers block of huge parts of it. The council have a lot to answer for!

I sympathise with anyone living so close to Finsbury Park; I’m in St Ann’s, so not affected in the same way, but was still very much aware of constant music thumping away in the background all last weekend (whether from the Park or closer I’m not sure). But I wonder if the ire should be directed further up the political chain? We all know that funding for local authorities was slashed to the bone by the previous government and councils will now do almost anything to earn extra income, whether it’s parking charges and fines or renting out any available space for concerts and festivals as often as possible, despite upsetting local residents. The current government has made no visible moves to restore local government finances (except allowing annual 5% council tax increases for the forseeable future), so perhaps this needs lobbying of MPs as well as complaints about the council being in Live Nation’s pocket?

Very large police presence and rumours of concerns about trouble /  if anything does happen the Councillors who agreed to allow this to happen should be held personally responsible.  Some tho g very wrong where a council grants licences for events they benefit from.
