Harringay online

Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Walking down Green Lanes late this afternoon, we went into the new Turkish store we'd noticed previously.

The genial owner Savaş (Savash) has picked a tough time to open a new store, but he offers an enticing array of dried, fruit, nuts and other Turkish goodies. So all the best of luck to him.

What took our attention looking on the window was a rather delicious looking range of turkish delight that you can't get in the other shops on the Lanes.

We chose a few slices of the pistachio and a few of the almond and chocolate - very tasty - something I'd be happy to find on my table as an after dinner treat with coffee (or as a stocking filler).

The shop is on Grand Parade, just down form the Salisbury opposite the block between Seymour and Warham.

Apparently the website is still in development, but As of 18th Dec their website is up and running andyou can see more of their enticing range on their Facebook page.

(....and bfore the cynics amongst you wonder, no this isn't a paid promotion).

I have been meaning to go there - some amazing sweets for Xmas!

Website now up and running - https://badem.co.uk

Another small treat today.

Despite my Turkish fatigue I have to admit this looks really delicious and well worth trying.

After a bit of searching, below is the latest list of businesses that can remain open in level 4 areas

Businesses and venues which can remain open

Other businesses and venues are permitted to stay open, following COVID-19 Secure guidelines. This includes those providing essential goods and services, including:

  • essential retail such as food shops, supermarkets, pharmacies, garden centres and Christmas tree retailers, building merchants and suppliers of building products and off-licences
  • market stalls selling essential retail may also stay open
  • businesses providing repair services may also stay open, where they primarily offer repair services
  • petrol stations, automatic (but not manual) car washes, vehicle repair and MOT services, bicycle shops, and taxi and vehicle hire businesses
  • banks, building societies, post offices, short-term loan providers and money transfer businesses
  • funeral directors
  • laundrettes and dry cleaners
  • medical and dental services
  • vets and pet shops
  • animal rescue centres, boarding facilities, and animal groomers (may continue to be used for animal welfare, rather than aesthetic purposes)
  • agricultural supplies shops
  • mobility and disability support shops
  • storage and distribution facilities
  • car parks, public toilets and motorway service areas
  • outdoor playgrounds
  • outdoor gym, pools, sports courts and facilities
  • golf courses
  • archery/driving/shooting ranges (outdoors)
  • outdoor riding centres

Turkish delight is definitely essential!

I completely agree - it should actually be classed as a pharmaceutical

Try this shop. They’re really friendly too.

Now, sadly, gone and about to be replaced by yet another barber.

There was a clip I saw on social media recently featuring some B list celeb (or an A lister I don't know) who said that he has his hair cut three times a week. I guess if that's common practice, you'd need to number of barbers we now have in Harringay. Or, perhaps the state of the NHS means that some have returned to being barber-surgeons and they're providing a local way to shortcut the waiting lists!
