Questions for law enforcement re Womens Personal Safety in the area

Following a discussion with David Lammy's researcher Nora Mulready this afternoon about setting up a meeting with law enforcement around the issue of women's personal safety following the three rapes in recent months in the area, I have offered to collate questions for the police that can be passed on in preparation for the meeting.

So far I have picked up 12 clear questions from the Street Harrassment reports thread which are attached as a document

This document has now been sent on to David Lammy's office who will endeavour to get answers to our questions. We'll keep you posted.

Point 8 is important in that it outlines what may be used under the Public Order act. Clearly the police are suggesting that people report harrassment so they are made aware of the problem and can act on specific cases, where possible (point 9).

It's still not clear whether or not the police are utilizing the council's 'traffic' cameras for gathering evidence, such as for the offence committed on Green Lanes on the 9th January (point 3).

Liz, can I suggest that this letter & log are also posted into a new discussion so that they are highlighted in this week's mail out to HOL members. Thanks.

I'm going to quote the Public Order Act at that next moron who hassles me.

Thanks so much to Nora and Liz for all their hard work on this.

The February robbery figures (four are listed) do not include the two muggings of women on Umfreville Road in late February. It is wrong to blame under-reporting for this inaccuracy. Police were called to - and responded to - at least the first of these two incidents. Bottom line: nearly five months have passed since the first rape, but police have yet to charge anyone in connection with the three rapes. Twenty-two people have been charged for soliciting in an area neighbouring Harringay - not one for the events that concern us in the area that concerns us.
