Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
Grit Bins on the Harringay Ladder
It won't come as any surprise that there aren't any grit bins on the Harringay Ladder! Following the snow we had in January and all the problems it caused the council are going to provide grit bins. I intend to keep the pressure on the council to do this quickly and it would be helpful to have residents feedback about where these bins should be located.

Hi all, I have send the email below to the cabinet member on this issue.
Hi John, I have a number of emails asking for grit bins in the ward, I have also been advice that Harringay website has a map were the grit bins in the borough but none in the Ladder. Can you please consider if not all the ward perhaps the hilly roads in the ward, those roads are quite dangerous when it snows. Thank you.

There was one in Beresford a number of years ago , but the CEO of Haringey council took it to put his wage in it

I posted something a while back indicating how you can find out where grit bins are (one in the whole N4 post code it seems) and how to request one be placed on your road: http://www.harringayonline.com/forum/topics/we-the-residents-decide.... I did make a request when the weather turned in Jan and I guess I will have to wait until December to see if one will materialise as I have not have a response from anyone in the relevant team...
As to whether these bins should be for footpaths or roads, I do not disagree that the council should take a lead on gritting roads, but as we found out (to our cost for those of us who ended up falling or with banged up cars- and there were many) they cannot always take such a lead and some times we have to take responsibility for our own communities... Had we had grit bins we could have sorted the sheet of ice on Pemberton a lot quicker.
Oh, my vote was for one outside South Harringay School.
