Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
Warning about Unnecessary Work , and a recommendation for a good Boiler/ Central Heating Technician

Not sure if it's the done thing to post about bad service but this has got my blood boiling a little. A few weeks ago our newish boiler (2 years old) stopped working. We couldn;t get hold of the installer straight away so we called a local company out of the Yellow Pages to get it fixed. The engineer that came within the hour, out took one look at it and told me it wasn't installed properly. He then got his office to check on the company that had installed it and told us that they were not registered with Gas safe, and that it was unsafe to use. He gave a verbal estimate to put it right of "hundreds to thousands" of pounds, with a list of over half a dozen problems.
The cause of the breakdown was the test valve had been opened (presumably by that cat that sleeps all day on top of the boiler), clipping it back on got the boiler working.
Worried about all this we contacted Gassafe, who have just finished inspecting the boiler. The inspector looked at the list of issues, thoroughly tested the boiler and gas-supply and gave it a clean bill of health. I rang the company that gave us the list of issues and was pretty much fobbed off.
So the Conclusion:
Do use Heat It, Paul and his team are fantastic, and we have been nothing but impressed by their service.
Avoid AATBF, unless you've got money to spend.

I agree, I got Paul from Heat it out this week to give me a quote on a new system and they gave one of the best and most detailed quotes.

Paul from Heat It - is here now fixing the boiler - his team came round within a few hours of calling them to fix it
CG could not fit us in for 2 days - its too cold to wait 2 days
They got my vote and the work- excellent team of guys

We had a bloke round today, Rob Murray, who had got good reviews last year from HoL users. After a total of 3 1/4 hours at my house, I am now £210 lighter. He took the front off the boiler and replaced 2 small valves. He read the manual a great deal. Took lots of sharp intakes of breath. Looked at the pipes, added rust inhibitor and bled the radiators. He also rang Gas Safe about whether our system was safe to run. He too was keen to know if the company that had fitted the boiler was Gas Safe registered.
We would have been far happier if he had spent half the time on the work that he did. Needless to say this will be the last time that he steps into my house.

I see why he is too busy to do any big jobs! I couldn't get Rob out to give me a quote. We are in the wrong profession ;o)

I'm not sure what's happenning with Heat It, they were meant to come out and give me a quote for replacing my boiler before Christmas and they just didn't turn up, and after that no-one was answering their phones, and their website's down.
I got CG gas to do it in the end, and they were great - really friendly, efficiant, didn't do the teeth sucking doom - mongering thing, and gave a resaonable quote.
