Haringey's explanation? Somehow it's "Coronavirus"

Don't think you've read that correctly.
"At this time, as we adapt to a pandemic that has affected the world, the work councils do has never been clearer – and we need experienced people leading our teams. "
My apologies. Thought you were referring to the quote from the TPA bloke.
Ah the shady Tufton St crew, ask them who funds them and how many of their salaries are over £100k. You should also ask how many staff they have.
How does this compare with other similar London boroughs?
You can download the Tax Payer Alliance spreadsheet with an answer to this question in the link I've provided below.
Substantially more than immediate neighbours, only Hackney comes close. What I would be really interested in is seeing the pay gap between the lowest paid and highest paid members of staff. Local government have some real leverage in working to close it. Having said all that I take anything published by the Tax Payer Alliance with a couple of kilos of salt. They have a habit of publishing data in a manner that suits their own agenda and sometimes doesn’t bear scrutiny when you dig down into it.
I agree about the issue of comparability with lower paid staff, Michael. That was one of the many elements on my mind when I referred to the complexity of this situation.
Like you, I'm also careful about taking the TPA figures at face-value without digging deeper. Their tabloid headline of Town Hall Rich List tells us something about the starting point of their thinking.
It's worth pointing out that the Ham & High article included the following.
According to the council, which was an early adopter of the London Living Wage for lower-paid staff, 18 officers are on a salary above £100,000.
Anyone know when we're going to start seeing the benefit of this extra expertise we seem to be paying over the odds for? Any day soon would be terrific.
Bob, according to the Tax Payers' Alliance, the number of Haringey officers paid over £100,000 is 31, not 21. Below is a screenshot for their spreadsheet.
I can't say I'd be particularly surprised or shocked at any London borough having this sort of number of employees at that level of pay. Any who do a good job in their offices would be earning that money. The question for me is less about the level of pay and more about the level of performance. Are they doing a good job? Are they a return on our investment?
Of course, the issue is far more complex and nuanced than that and far too complex for proper consideration in an arena like this one.

Do you know why so many staff are "undisclosed"? Surely if we're paying these people £100,000+ of our money, we have a right to know who they are? This doesn't seem like very transparent democracy, does it? It's impossible to assess value for money with so many undisclosed £100k+ positions.
