So my catalytic converter got stolen, twice... in just two weeks! Just wanted to share my story and warn other car owners in the area.
The first one happened in the beginning of February. I was about to use my car in the morning when it made a loud noise. I didn't know what happened so I took it to my garage. The mechanic knew it straight away what's wrong. His first question was "Is this happened overnight?"... Repair cost £1200, luckily my insurance covers most of it, but lost 2 years bonus. I was also lucky with the new part(s) as it was the last item on stock.
I bought a security plate to cover the catalytic converter on last Sunday and I was ready to go to the garage to get it fitted this Tuesday when I heard the same loud noise coming out of my car. They did it again! Just before I wanted to fit the security plate! The insurance covers the most of it again, but lost another 2 years! In just two weeks I lost 4 years bonus, from 5 years back to 1 year! And to make it even worst, the part(s) are out of stock now and I have to wait until middle of March....
My car is a Toyota Auris and happened near Duckett Road.

This is a most distressing thing to happen. Its becoming very common, and you were so unfortunate to be the victim of thieves who do just this; wait for the replacement and do it again. The only way this will be stopped is by tightening the law on scrap metal dealers so there is nowhere to sell on. Write to your mp.
Recently read a newspaper report over a thousand have been stolen recently
Some have been seen and recorded used vehicles to find they are on false number plates
Understand that they use grinders, which have been reported to cut through security covers . But make more noise when being cut off
Surprise that Alarms do not go off when vehicles are jacked up
Also understand that they are not being scrapped in this Country. but shipped to another Country for scrapping
Seems that Everyone has to fit security cameras
Have seen more Police patrols and seen Blue lights at night in my area
Understand that some vehicles are high enough for them to crawl under. Makes removal quicker
Joke is if caught and charged, most cases are released on Police Bail. Often for many months.
Then before a Judge they are only charged on last Event. And again often given Suspended Sentences
As so profitable back out doing it a again.
"Seems that Everyone has to fit security cameras"
Before doing this please read the guidance in the link below, on the use of domesticv CCTV systems and filming the public realm. It is offered by the Information Commissioner's Office.
There are many domestic CCTV systems on the market to help you prot...
And the cops are too busy filling up the ticket hall at the Tube stations to catch fare dodgers to do anything about crime that affects residents.
You don't think fare dodging is a crime that affects residents ?
Not in the same way as having something stolen from you personally, no. Are you a troll?
Definitely.
Think you will find they are Transport Police. Not Police
Police only attend if Public Orders issues. Unless they are running Metal Arches or Drugs
My car was broken into a month ago, I filed the incident on-line and within 3 hours forensics arrived. I must say I was pleasantly surprised.
I don't now if any of the recent spate of cat' thefts have been reported, or not, but unless all of these crimes are logged they cannot be investigated and the scale of the problem cannot be known.
hi
I live at Tottenham Hale and had my catalytic converter stolen last month. I had a Honda Jazz which was then a write off (it was a 2004 model). I had no idea it was such a common problem until this happened. i did notice that the police stopped a vehicle in Highgate a couple of weeks later and found something like 14 catalytic converters on board - but not from Hondas. I had to buy a new (second hand) car and got an electric.
Another issue is that Electric cars are being Stolen for their Batteries
Makes you wonder if its the Greens trying to remove cars from the Road
