if you are thinking of having Chinese food this NYE I’d steer clear of China Chef in West Green Road
We ordered a Chinese meal at today (31.12.18) from China Chef, 466 West Green Road, N153PT via Uber Eats and found a Chinese cigarette butt in the chicken chow mein.
For this to occur, the chef MUST have been smoking in the kitchen and dropped the cigarette butt into the food.
This is disgusting and a potential health hazard.
I rang to complain and the restaurant initially refused to believe me, then told me they would send a driver round to collect the dish back.
When the driver arrived I refused the replacement dish as it would have been cooked in the same environment and asked for a full refund.
I am awaiting that refund now and have reported them to Haringey Food Safety Team,
ugh.

That butt may be the most appetising part of the dish.
OMG. I am never going to look at Chinese chow Mein in the same way ever again!!
I tried for about five minutes to think of something funny to make light of this, but failed.
That's pretty disgusting.
Thanks for the heads up.
They don't appear on the food hygiene ratings site, it is a new business? It seems their food safety has never been checked.
Is anyone familiar with the urban myth that all Chinese food is being mass manufactured in a factory and delivered to take aways in those boxes? This explains how the food all tastes the same from one shop to the next and the speed at which food appears (it's all precooked so just pop into microwave ) . Makes sense financially (no need to run a kitchen and can be run by 2 people as always seems to be the case). You can never see into the back of these places which puts me off as well... no way to see how clean it is etc
I do hope that you’re putting more weight on the myth part of your thinking than anything else in your comment.
Compared to that photo I couldn't really say much worse... anyway if it's true I admire the innovation as trying to run a take away must be a nightmare financially. Maybe if it all came from a professional factory then the "extras" would also be avoided... food for thought?
The dim sum might be bought in, but it's almost certainly cheaper for a restaurant to make most dishes them selves. So it's unlikely to be bought in. I suspect in this case, it's just appallingly sloppy kitchen hygiene.
Not sure I would agree there. The cost of those dishes would be much cheaper if produced in bulk. The factory would have economy of scales advantages which the little shop could never hope to achieve. In return the take away saves on wages, equipment, running costs and administration.
